Spatial Patterns of Historical Changes in Human Heat Stress Disagree Across Metrics

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 52, Issue 20, 28 October 2025.
Abstract A robust estimation of how heat stress is changing worldwide is complicated by the variety of heat stress metrics in use. This study compares heat stress changes between 1979–2000 and 2001–2023 across five commonly used metrics calculated with ERA5 reanalysis data.

Thermal conditions during heat waves of a mid-European metropolis under consideration of climate change, urban development scenarios and resilience measures for the mid‑21st century

open access: yesMeteorologische Zeitschrift, 2021
In this study we produce two urban development scenarios estimating potential urban sprawl and optimized development concerning building construction, and we simulate their influence on air temperature, surface temperatures and human thermal comfort.

Comparisons of the Urbanization Effect on Heat Stress Changes in Guangdong during Different Periods

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2023
While rapid urbanization promotes social and economic development, it exacerbates human outdoor thermal comfort, which increases the risks to human health.

Microclimate, Soil and Plant Dataset From a Mediterranean Urban Canyon With Irrigated Planters

open access: yesGeoscience Data Journal, Volume 12, Issue 4, October 2025.
A comprehensive dataset from an instrumented urban canyon in Montpellier (France) investigates how vegetation type and irrigation influence the microclimate. The information supports thermal process analysis, model validation and strategies for optimising water resources to mitigate urban heatwaves.

Multi‐Method Integrated Approach to Assess Human Climate Comfort in Iran

open access: yesMeteorological Applications, Volume 32, Issue 4, July/August 2025.
Evaluating human thermal comfort in Iran through a multi‐method approach, this study analyzes 30 climatic and ecological variables using a comprehensive data set spanning 38 years (1984–2022). By integrating techniques such as principal component analysis, multivariate regression, cluster analysis, spatial modeling, machine learning, and artificial ...

Gastritis over Gastrisus Sharp (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Xanthopygina): Resolving a major taxonomic impediment with phylogenomics

open access: yesSystematic Entomology, Volume 50, Issue 3, Page 449-468, July 2025.
Comprehensive phylogeny of Xanthopygina rove beetles (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae), including 30 of 33 genera, was generated by anchored hybrid enrichment of 1229 nuclear, protein‐encoding loci. We resolved nine major clades within Xanthopygina, including the new Leptodiastemus group, and successfully delineated a monophyletic concept of Gastrisus ...

Long‐Term Changes of Universal Thermal Climate Index (UTCI) Estimated From Weather Stations and Gradient‐Boosted Decision Trees Throughout Japan

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, Volume 45, Issue 8, 30 June 2025.
From 1980 to 2020, it was found that not only summer heat stress, in terms of the Universal Thermal Climate Index (UTCI), but also winter cold stress has been worsening throughout Japan. Daily maximum UTCI values above which heat stroke cases rapidly increased tend to be relatively low in northern cities.

Assessing Progress in Urban Climate Adaptation: A Review of Indicators for Heat‐ and Water‐Sensitive Urban Development

open access: yesClimate Resilience and Sustainability, Volume 4, Issue 1, June 2025.
We identified 27 indicators that were grouped into 5 key areas: (1) surface and urban overheating indicators; (2) building type and structure indicators; (3) green infrastructure indicators; (4) soil‐sealing indicators; and (5) water‐sensitive urban development indicators. We concluded in the review that green infrastructure and soil‐sealing indicators,
