Breaking the Trade‐Off of Mechanical Robustness and Energy Storage Capacity in Phase Change Materials Through a Molecular Design Strategy of Hard‐Segment‐Anchored/Side‐Chain‐Storage

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 51, 14 September 2026.
To decouple mechanical robustness and energy storage capacity in phase change materials (PCMs), a series of polyurethane‐based PCMs bearing crystallizable alkyl side chains are synthesized via a hard‐segment‐anchored/side‐chain‐storage molecular design.

Design Optimization of Soft Fabric Pneumatic Actuators

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, Volume 8, Issue 9, September 2026.
This study presents a systematic optimization framework for elongating and bending fabric‐based soft pneumatic actuators. After a preliminary design‐space reduction, the framework minimizes energy consumption under mechanical performance constraints by integrating validated finite element modeling with statistical surrogate models. Optimal designs were

Spatio‐Temporal Dynamics of Asian Clams in Two Mediterranean Canals

open access: yesAquatic Conservation: Marine and Freshwater Ecosystems, Volume 36, Issue 9, September 2026.
ABSTRACT The rapid spread of the non‐native invasive Asian clam (Corbicula spp.) has been linked to the catastrophic decline of native freshwater mussel assemblages in Europe and North and South America. This study evaluates the spatio‐temporal dynamics and shell size structure of the Asian clam within two Mediterranean canals: Canal Imperial de Aragón

Structural Attributes Outweigh Topographical Effects in Determining Vascular Plant Diversity Within Southern Apennine Old‐Growth Forests

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 9, September 2026.
Forest structure accounted for a larger unique fraction of vascular plant compositional variation in Southern Apennine old‐growth forests (23.5%) than topography alone (12.8%), with a substantial shared contribution between the two predictor sets.

Context‐Dependent Movement Responses of Large Carabids to Forest Gap Cuttings

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 9, September 2026.
This study investigates the effects of forest management on the movement of ground beetles within an oak‐hornbeam forest in northern Hungary. We compared a closed‐canopy control stand with various small‐scale canopy gaps. To track movement and habitat use within these treatments, two carabid species, Carabus ullrichii and C.
