A Bayesian Hierarchical Spatiotemporal Model With Physical Barriers for Extreme Sea‐Level Prediction in Ireland

open access: yesEnvironmetrics, Volume 37, Issue 6, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Rising seas raise the vulnerability of coastal regions through higher extreme sea levels. This paper estimates extreme sea levels at gauged and ungauged coastal locations around Ireland and the West Coast of Great Britain, using a Bayesian hierarchical extreme‐value model with spatiotemporal random effects. The annual maxima of tidal residuals

How does lithology influence fluvial erodibility? A study of knickpoint retreat in small bedrock rivers on the Isle of Jura

open access: yesEarth Surface Processes and Landforms, Volume 51, Issue 9, September 2026.
Base level fall driven by glacio‐isostatic rebound created a suite of migrating knickpoints on the Isle of Jura. Modelling knickpoint retreat rate with different models of erodibility based on rock strength data reveals that accounting for the contrast in bed load and bedrock strength best explains knickpoint retreat rate. Abstract Bedrock rivers are a

Morphological Changes and Alterations in Erosion–Accretion Patterns in a Semiarid Brazilian River

open access: yesEarth Surface Processes and Landforms, Volume 51, Issue 9, September 2026.
Flow regulation by the Castanhão Dam significantly altered discharge dynamics and reduced sediment transport in the Jaguaribe River. Long‐term analysis (1958–2025) reveals attenuated flood peaks, decreased channel migration and progressive downstream stabilisation, highlighting persistent geomorphic adjustments in a regulated semiarid fluvial system ...

Effects of Spirulina Enrichment on Bread Quality: Color, Texture, Volatile, and Sensory Properties

open access: yesFood Science &Nutrition, Volume 14, Issue 9, September 2026.
This study explored how the addition of 1%–2% Spirulina powder affects bread quality, focusing on color, texture, volatile compounds, and sensory characteristics. Spirulina mainly influenced bread color and volatile profile, while texture remained largely unchanged. The enriched samples also showed more pronounced bitter and marine notes.

Nonlinear Strain Engineering via Meta‐Material Substrates for Flexible Sensors With Simultaneously Enhanced Sensitivity and Wide Sensing Range

open access: yesGlobal Challenges, Volume 10, Issue 9, September 2026.
Strain sensors trade sensing range for sensitivity. A metamaterial substrate coupling strain‐stiffening and uniform‐stiffness architectures redistributes applied strain, so any bonded sensor experiences only a fraction of it. Demonstrated with a kirigami crack sensor, the platform extends the working range 2.5‐fold to 125% strain while retaining 3.5 ...
