Utterance Selection Model of Language Change
We present a mathematical formulation of a theory of language change. The theory is evolutionary in nature and has close analogies with theories of population genetics. The mathematical structure we construct similarly has correspondences with the Fisher-

How to Do Things Without Words: Infants, utterance-activity and distributed cognition [PDF]
Clark and Chalmers (1998) defend the hypothesis of an ‘Extended Mind’, maintaining that beliefs and other paradigmatic mental states can be implemented outside the central nervous system or body.

Simulating optional infinitive errors in child speech through the omission of sentence-internal elements. [PDF]
A new version of the MOSAIC model of syntax acquisition is presented. The modifications to the model aim to address two weaknesses in its earlier simulations of the Optional Infinitive phenomenon: an over-reliance on questions in the input as the source ...

Articulation rate in Swedish child-directed speech increases as a function of the age of the child even when surprisal is controlled for [PDF]
In earlier work, we have shown that articulation rate in Swedish child-directed speech (CDS) increases as a function of the age of the child, even when utterance length and differences in articulation rate between subjects are controlled for.

Movement Disorders in Aicardi–Goutières Syndrome and Response to Immunomodulation
ABSTRACT This study characterizes movement disorders and treatment responses in seven children with Aicardi–Goutières syndrome (AGS). We retrospectively evaluated motor phenotypes, neuroimaging, and interferon signatures in patients treated with baricitinib or anifrolumab. Spasticity affected all patients, while dystonia was present in 4/7.

Objective The objective of this article is to identify perceptions of SLE patients regarding artificial intelligence (AI)‐based online symptom assessment tools, and the potential of these tools to address diagnostic barriers. Methods Adults from our SLE research cohort were invited to participate in 60‐90 minute virtual focus groups concerning their ...

Where has the new information gone? : the chinese case [PDF]
In this paper I would like to show that the principles which have been proposed so far to account for the relationship between the informational level and the syntactic level in a Chinese utterance are unable to predict some interesting and regular facts

Computationally Efficient and Robust BIC-Based Speaker Segmentation [PDF]
An algorithm for automatic speaker segmentation based on the Bayesian information criterion (BIC) is presented. BIC tests are not performed for every window shift, as previously, but when a speaker change is most probable to occur.

Actuating and Sensing Composites of Liquid Crystal Elastomers and Poly(ionic liquid)s
Ionic conductive, mechanically tough, flexible, and stretchable filaments of a composite material comprising a liquid crystal elastomer and a poly(ionic liquid) are produced through 3D printing, which exhibit large actuation strain under stimulation and electrical resistance variation in response to deformation or environmental condition changes. Their
