Growth and physiological responses of sunflower plants exposed to ultraviolet-B radiation Crescimento e respostas fisiológicas de plantas de girassol à radiação ultravioleta-B

open access: yesCiência Rural, 2007
The effects of UV-B radiation were studied in sunflower plants (Helianthus annuus L. cv. Catissol-01) growning in greenhouse under natural photoperiod conditions.

Achieving High ON State Current through Ferroelectric Polarization‐Dependent Interfacial Resistance Switching in Undoped Orthorhombic HfO2 Films

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Ferroelectric tunnel junction devices based on epitaxial undoped ferroelectric HfO2 films demonstrate stable switching endurance of over 106 switching cycles, low write voltages of ±3 V, 16 measured resistance states, and neuromorphic capability.

Protective effects of colorless carotenoid precursors against UV-induced lipid oxidation in liposomes compared to lycopene

open access: yesScientific Reports
Consuming tomato-extracts can reduce the risk of developing chronic diseases. As lycopene supplementation alone had a weaker impact, the protective effect may be influenced by the colorless carotenoids phytoene and phytofluene.

X‐Functionality–Driven Photocatalytic Hydrogen Evolution in 2D 4‐X‐PEA2SnI4 Perovskites

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We report a water‐based synthesis of 2D 4‐X‐PEA2SnI4 perovskite microcrystals with prominent photocatalytic (PC) activity for H2 production. The synergy between organic functionalization and HI‐derived iodide scavenges holes suppress octahedral distortion, and favor electron accumulation, enabling a PC H2 evolution ∼20 µmol·g−1 and long‐term stability ...

Orbital Geometry‐Governed Response of Pressure‐Tunable Quantum Defects in hBN

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Defects in hBN act as ultrasensitive quantum manometers when the energy of the intradefect optical transitions is modified by lattice compression. The orbital geometry of the electron wave functions governs how electron hopping and Coulomb interactions react uniquely to the reduction of the van der Waals gap and in‐plane compression, leading to robust ...

Impact of UV-B radiation on photosynthesis – an overview

open access: yesEmirates Journal of Food and Agriculture, 2012
Ultraviolet-B (UV-B) radiation constitutes a minor part of the solar spectrum, being most of this solar radiation absorbed by the UV-screening stratospheric ozone layer. Yet, a global depletion of the ozone layer, largely due to the release of chlorofluorocarbons caused by human activities, has resulted in an increase of solar UV-B radiation at the ...

Enhanced Resistance to UV-B Radiation in Anabaena sp PCC 7120 (Cyanophyceae) by Repeated Exposure

open access: yes, 2014
In natural habitats, organisms especially phytoplankton are not always continuously subjected to ultraviolet-B radiation (UVBR). By simulation of the natural situation, the N-2-fixing cyanobacterium Anabaena sp.

Exciton Binding Energy of Phosphorescent Emitter Molecules in Organic Light‐Emitting Diodes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Energy level alignment is key to efficient OLED design, yet determining LUMO energies remains challenging. A methodology based on field‐induced dissociation and kinetic Monte Carlo simulations is presented to extract LUMO energies of iridium‐based phosphorescent emitters from their exciton binding energy.
