Ageing of butyl rubber against UV irradiation

Polymer Photochemistry, 1982
Abstract The photodegradation and stabilisation of butyl rubber have been studied in air in the temperature range of 258 to 318 K using a monochromatic light of 366 nm with a constant intensity flux of 1·68×10 −8 einstein s −1 cm −2 in the absence and presence of cuprous di-isopropyl dithiophosphate. Irradiations were carried out on films at 0, 2,

UV-B as a pro-aging and pro-cataract factor

Documenta Ophthalmologica, 1995
One of the functions of the human lens is filter light between 300-400 nm from reaching the retina. The lens is therefore continually under photooxidative stress. In the young lens the primary absorbing species is the O-beta glucoside of 3-hydroxykynurenine (3-HKG) which has a maximum at 365 nm.

Study of UV-aging of thermoplastic polyurethane material

Materials Science and Engineering: A, 2010
In the present work, the characteristics of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) material exposed to artificial weathering environment for different durations were studied. The influence on (i) appearance and morphology, (ii) thermal properties and (iii) mechanical properties evolution of the material were investigated during aging.

Accelerated Hygrothermal and UV Aging of Thermoplastic Polyurethanes

High Performance Polymers, 2008
Thermoplastic polyurethanes (PU) were prepared from 4,4'-diphenyl methane diisocyanate (MDI), polyether polyol and 1,4 butane diol with and without a hindered amine light stabilizer (Tinuvin®-123) and UV absorber (Tinuvin®-400). The accelerated hygrothermal and UV aging were performed at different humidity and aging temperatures for 720, 1440, and 2160

Ag-GaP schottky photodiodes for UV sensors

IEEE Transactions on Electron Devices, 2003
We created UV-sensitive photodiodes based on a GaP Schottky barrier. A revised value of the Ag-GaP barrier height (1.55/spl plusmn/0.03 eV) has been determined, and this value is much larger than commonly used for this system. Moreover, it depends on the parameters of the dielectric spacer and may be up to 1.7 eV. The high Schottky barrier improves the

UV astronomy throughout the ages: a historical perspective

Astrophysics and Space Science, 2018
Astronomers have long recognized the critical need for ultraviolet imaging, photometry and spectroscopy of stars, planets, and galaxies, but this need could not be satisfied without access to space and the development of efficient instrumentation. When UV measurements became feasible, first with rockets and then with satellites, major discoveries came ...

UV curable masking resins come of age

Metal Finishing, 2003
Abstract In today's environment, process cost' reduction has taken on a greater meaning — survival. On one hand, increased competitive pressure is forcing metal finishers to look to new technologies and revamped processes in the quest for potential savings.
