UV aged epoxy coatings ̶ Ecotoxicological effects and released compounds

open access: yesWater Research X, 2021
Organic coatings can guarantee long-term protection of steel structures due to causing a physical barrier against water and oxygen. Because of their mechanical properties and resistances to heat and chemicals, epoxy resin-based coatings are widely used for corrosion protection.

Cellulose-Graphene Bifunctional Paper Conservation Materials: For Reinforcement and UV Aging Protection

open access: yesCoatings, 2023
Paper artifacts have unique cultural and historical values. However, over time, many paper artifacts appear with disease characteristics such as embrittlement and photoaging, losing the most fundamental function of the literature archive.

Study on UV aging characteristics of low-grade asphalt in the desert climate

open access: yesMaterials Research Express, 2023
The Taklamakan Desert in China’s Xinjiang region faces severe heat conditions that cause rutting in asphalt pavements. In order to combat this issue, local construction management has been advocating for the utilization of low-grade asphalt with ...

Longwave UV Light Induces the Aging-Associated Progerin [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Investigative Dermatology, 2013
Premature aging in Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome (HGPS) is caused by a mutation of the LMNA gene that activates a cryptic splice site. This results in expression of a truncated form of Lamin A, called progerin. Accumulation of progerin in the nuclei of HGPS cells impairs nuclear functions and causes abnormal nuclear morphology.

The Effect of Ultraviolet Aging Duration on the Rheological Properties of Sasobit/SBS/Nano-TiO2-Modified Asphalt Binder

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2022
In recent years, nanoparticles have been introduced into warm-mix-modified asphalt to improve asphalt performance after sustaining ultraviolet (UV) aging, yet the evaluation of aging performance is often a descriptive characterization of rheological ...

Communication: UV photoionization of cytosine catalyzed by Ag+ [PDF]

open access: yesThe Journal of Chemical Physics, 2015
The photo-induced damages of DNA in interaction with metal cations, which are found in various environments, still remain to be characterized. In this paper, we show how the complexation of a DNA base (cytosine (Cyt)) with a metal cation (Ag+) changes its electronic properties.

UV-aging of microplastics increases proximal ARG donor-recipient adsorption and leaching of chemicals that synergistically enhance antibiotic resistance propagation.

open access: yesJournal of Hazardous Materials, 2021
Despite growing attention to environmental pollution by microplastics (MP), the effects of MP aging on bacterial horizontal gene transfer (HGT) have not been systematically investigated.
