Shared Genetic Effects and Antagonistic Pleiotropy Between Multiple Sclerosis and Common Cancers
ABSTRACT Objective Epidemiologic studies have reported inconsistent altered cancer risk in individuals with multiple sclerosis (MS). Factors such as immune dysregulation, comorbidities, and disease‐modifying therapies may contribute to this variability.

Two pyridinium‐based ionic liquid templated hybrid manganese halides, (C4Py)2[MnCl4] and (C4Py)2[MnBr4], display similar bulk structures but show significantly different photoluminescence behaviors due to the bromine heavy‐atom effect. Their stable local Mn environments remain intact even in the molten state, allowing applications such as luminescence ...

A Hyperspectral Camera in the UVA Band [PDF]
We present a hyperspectral camera based on a Fabry–Perot interferometer designed to work in the UVA range (315–400 nm). The measured hypercube contains about $400 \times 400$ pixels, for a total of 160 000 spectra. Each spectrum has a spectral resolution of about 5 nm at the wavelength of 315 nm. Spatial and spectral discrimination capability has

We describe a microfluidic tumor‐stroma co‐culture model, engineered to resist collagen‐hydrogel contraction driven by fibroblast activity. Surface silanization with APTES covalently anchors the matrix to the chip, while Genipin crosslinking progressively increases stiffness and elasticity without harming cells. This supports >10 days of co‐culture and

Sunscreens - Which and what for? [PDF]
It is well established that sun exposure is the main cause for the development of skin cancer. Chronic continuous UV radiation is believed to induce malignant melanoma, whereas intermittent high-dose UV exposure contributes to the occurrence of actinic ...

A versatile approach is presented for fabricating smart multifunctional textiles by integrating thermo‐fluorescent carbon dot/polymer nanocomposite coatings with 3D‐printed interlocked architectures. The fabrics exhibit temperature‐responsive fluorescence, durable hydrophobicity, strong antibacterial and antioxidant activity, and enhanced UV protection.

Background: For preoperative antimicrobials to be most effective in preventing surgical site infection, they must be administered early enough to reach a minimum tissue concentration that is specific to each drug. However, antibiotics have widely ranging

The UvA color document dataset [PDF]
Publications on color document image analysis present results on small, nonpublicly available datasets. In this paper we propose a well-defined and groundtruthed color dataset consisting of over 1000 pages, with associated tools for evaluation. As we focus on aspects specific to color documents, we leave out the document textual content in the ground ...

Integrated Visible Light and Oxidant Protection Through Multifunctional Sunscreens
High‐energy visible radiation (HEVR), although less energetic than UV light, penetrates deeper into the skin and contributes to photoaging, pigmentation disorders, and oxidative stress. The development of new HEVR‐targeted filters, therefore, represents not only a scientific challenge but also a pressing public health and cosmetic industry need.
