Tonsillectomy with Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty in Obstructive Sleep Apnea.

open access: yes, 2016
Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a very common disorder (prevalence 2-7% in women, 7-14% in men). It impairs the quality of life and increases mortality.

A State‐Gated Metallo‐DNAzyme Framework Programs Tumor Stress Vulnerability Through Metabolic Licensing

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A tumor‐state‐gated metallo‐DNAzyme framework integrates miR‐21/APE1‐responsive GLUT1 silencing with Ca/Cu‐partitioned metal–nucleic acid assembly and cystine loading. The framework first weakens glucose‐dependent metabolic buffering and then amplifies copper‐ and disulfide‐associated stress, converting tumor metabolic adaptation into programmable ...

Assessment of uvulopalatopharyngoplasty for the treatment of sleep apnea syndrome.

open access: yes, 1992
Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP) consists in the surgical removal of the uvula, part of the muscular portion of the soft palate and redundant palatal and pillar mucosa, and the tonsils.

Probing the Energy Landscape of α‐Synuclein Amyloid Fibril Formation by Systematic K‐to‐Q Mutagenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We use lysine‐to‐glutamine mutations to study the effect of electrostatics on the kinetics and thermodynamics of alpha‐synuclein amyloid fibril formation. We find that mutational effects map on their structural context within fibrils and identify residues that modulate the energy landscape of alpha‐synuclein self‐assembly. Our work outlines a scalable,

Comparative Analysis of Ketorolac and Parecoxib for Postoperative Pain Management in Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Clin Med
Background/Objectives: Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP) is a prevalent surgical procedure for treating obstructive sleep apnea. Effective postoperative pain management is crucial for patient comfort and recovery. This study aimed to compare the analgesic

15-year efficacy of uvulopalatopharyngoplasty based on objective and subjective data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Conclusions: This follow-up showed a stable and significant decrease in median oxygen desaturation index 4% (ODI(4)) values over the years. Approximately two-thirds of the patients fulfilled the success criteria (ODI4 reduction of 50% and andlt;20) after

Proteogenomic Profiling of Idiopathic Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension Identifies Sex‐Differential Proteins and Candidate Therapeutic Targets

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An integrated proteogenomic analysis of 44,137 predominantly European‐ancestry UK Biobank participants aged 40–69 years identifies 12 robust proteins associated with idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension. These proteins define a high‐mortality molecular endotype, support early detection and mortality prediction, reveal sex‐differential proteomic ...

Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty in 158 OSAS patients failing non-surgical treatment

open access: yes, 2009
Conclusions: Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP) in patients with obstructive sleep apnoea syndrome (OSAS) who had failed treatment with continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) and mandibular retaining device (MRD) was effective and safe.

Synthetic Shewanella‐Bacillus Microbial Consortia for Enhanced Metal Oxide Leaching From Spent Lithium‐Ion Batteries Using Brewing Wastewater as Leaching Agent

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A recycling approach of spent lithium‐ion batteries is developed using brewing wastewater as the leaching agent and an engineering microbial consortium as the biocatalyst. Shewanella oneidensis reduces spent LiNixCoyMn1‐x‐yO2 cathodes via extracellular electron transfer, while Bacillus subtilis removes residual ethanol to eliminate inhibition.

Harmonic Scalpel vs "cold knife" dissection in uvulopalatopharyngoplasty

open access: yes, 2010
Purpose: The aim of this study has been to compare the Harmonic Scalpel (HS) and the "cold knife" dissection in the treatment of snoring by uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP).
