Does uvulopalatopharyngoplasty inhibit automobile accidents?

open access: yes, 1995
Patients with rhonchopathy, which includes obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS), who report sleepy spells at the wheel do poorly on simulated monotonous driving tests and have a twofold to threefold increase in traffic accidents.

A Glucose Metabolism‐Modulatory Nanobiohybrid Vaccine Platform Promotes Anti‐Tumor Immunity by Orchestrating Autophagy‐Dependent Cross‐Presentation and H2S‐Enhanced NLRP3 Inflammasome Signaling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A nanobiohybrid vaccine was designed by constructing a hydrogen‐bonded organic framework coencapsulated with glucose oxidase (GOx) and tumor antigens. This nanobiohybrid vaccine executed a GOx‐catalyzed enzyme reaction that disrupted glucose metabolism and induced redox imbalance in dendritic cells, leading to autophagy‐dependent antigen cross ...

Comparison of Post-operative Pain Between Pulsed Electron Avalanche Knife (PEAK) and Electrocautery in Uvulopalatopharyngoplasty

open access: yes
Performing sleep surgery using electrocautery causes significant pain due to thermal tissue injury. A pulsed Electron Avalanche Knife (PEAK) can cut through tissue at lower temperatures, and is expected to reduce post-operative pain.

A Blood‐Derived Factor Rescues ALS: Platelet Factor 4 Activates OPTN‐Dependent Autophagy to Clear SOD1 Aggregates Independently of PINK1

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Systemic platelet factor 4 (PF4) is significantly depleted in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Peripheral PF4 replenishment restores central proteostasis by driving OPTN‐dependent, PINK1‐independent selective autophagy in motor neurons. This intervention effectively clears toxic SOD1 aggregates, blunts glial activation, and preserves neuromuscular ...

Changes in Upper Airway Space in a Patient with Pycnodysostosis Following Primary Surgery and Orthodontic Treatment: A 12-Year Follow-Up Case Report

open access: yesApplied Sciences
Pycnodysostosis (PDS) is an autosomal recessive form of osteosclerotic skeletal dysplasia characterized by craniofacial anomalies, a high-arched palate, and a narrowed pharyngeal space due to mandibular and maxillary deficiencies.

A Case Report on the Anaesthetic Management of Dexmedetomidine-Induced Sleep Endoscopy and Transoral Robotic Surgery for the Treatment of Obstructive Sleep Apnoea

open access: yesProceedings of Singapore Healthcare, 2013
A 44-year-old male presented with severe obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) which persisted despite septoplasty, inferior turbinectomy, uvulopalatopharyngoplasty and tonsillectomy.

Partial Phase‐Separation in the Initial Growth Stage of Exsolution‐Active SrTi0.95‐xNi0.05NbxO3‐δ Thin Films

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Phase separation emerges during the initial growth of heavily Ni‐ and Ni,Nb‐co‐doped STO thin films, leading to preferential accumulation of Ni and embedded NiOx nanoinclusions in thicker films. Nb co‐doping partially suppresses the ordering of these embedded structures, comprising about 20% of all Ni ions.

Performance Estimation and Ex Vivo Validation of Untethered Magnetic Robots in Soft Tissue

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study presents an empirical model that quantitatively predicts the step‐out frequency of screw‐type untethered magnetic robots (UMRs) in soft viscoelastic environments, including ex vivo brain tissue. By integrating key parameters into a dimensionless framework, the model enables estimation of robot performance across a range of biological ...

Effects of uvulopalatopharyngoplasty with Harmonic Scalpel on speech and voice

open access: yes, 2009
The aim of this study was to evaluate changes in acoustic features of speech and voice after uvulopalatopharyngoplasty (UPPP) with the Harmonic Scalpel (HS), using the multidimensional voice program (MDVP) in conjunction with other tests.

Biochemically Constrained Multi‐Omics Integration Reveals Protein–Metabolite Dependencies Across Diseases

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ProMetNet introduces a biologically constrained deep learning framework for proteo‐metabolomic integration by embedding Reactome‐derived pathway topology into neural networks. It captures non‐linear molecular dependencies and pathway‐level metabolic reorganization, enabling interpretable discrimination.
