Amyloid‐induced neuronal hyperactivity and ‐metabolism are associated with faster tau accumulation in Alzheimer's Disease [PDF]

open access: yesAlzheimers Dement
Abstract Background The link between amyloid (Aβ) and tau accumulation in Alzheimer's disease (AD) is still unknown, hindering therapeutic efforts to attenuate the Aβ‐tau axis. Preclinical studies demonstrated that Aβ promotes hyperexcitatory neuronal activity and that tau spreads trans‐synaptically in an activity‐dependent manner.

CSF proteomics reveals distinct choroid plexus‐related protein signatures in AD, PD and DLB [PDF]

open access: yesAlzheimers Dement
Abstract Background The choroid plexus (ChP) plays a role in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) production, protein transport and clearance, and central nervous system homeostasis. Emerging evidence suggests that ChP dysfunction is implicated in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases.

Hand grip strength and plasma markers of neurodegeneration among 1026 community‐dwelling older Nigerian adults: Insights from the VALIANT Study [PDF]

open access: yesAlzheimers Dement
Abstract Background Plasma biomarkers as well as non‐invasive measures of frailty are increasingly employed to aid population‐wide cognitive screening, phenotyping and preclinical diagnosis. Clinical application and reporting of neurofilament quantification in neuropsychiatric disorders: an international overview [PDF]

open access: yesAlzheimers Dement
Abstract Background The quantification of Neurofilament Light chain (NfL) in blood and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) has proven valuable for diagnosing and prognosing various neurological disorders, including Alzheimer's disease, frontotemporal dementia, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, parkinsonism, multiple sclerosis, and ischemic damage. However, there is

Palaeowinds and depositional conditions from Holocene loess in Sweden and Finland

open access: yesBoreas, EarlyView.
The nature of deglacial and Holocene wind regimes in Fennoscandia is debated, as is the degree to which wind‐blown loess deposits exist in the region. Loess deposits in Fennoscandia are often relatively thin, discontinuous and less well‐sorted than typical loess, and questions remain over the degree of their post‐depositional reworking and the impact ...
