Abstract Bed rest accelerates bone loss and may exacerbate skeletal fragility. This study examined the effects of 14 days of head‐down tilt bed rest (HDBR) with or without exercise, and subsequent recovery, on bone turnover, density and structure in older adults. Twenty‐two healthy older adults (55–65 years) completed the HDBR protocol.

Dorsal ischaemic myelopathy in a dog: A case of unilateral, focal predominantly sensory loss

Abstract A 3‐year‐3‐month‐old, neutered, male Great Dane was presented with peracute left hindlimb monoparesis. Although voluntary movement was present, the dog was effectively non‐ambulatory due to its size. Proprioception, nociception and spinal reflexes were absent in the left hindlimb, localising the lesion to a left L4–S1 myelopathy.

Acute kidney injury in a dog after ingestion of homemade modelling dough containing cream of tartar (potassium bitartrate)

Summary A 16‐month‐old, male, neutered cocker spaniel developed gastrointestinal signs following ingestion of a homemade modelling dough containing cream of tartar. Blood biochemistry (29 hours post‐ingestion) showed elevated creatinine, urea and symmetric dimethylarginine (SDMA).
