Brittle fracture in V-notches with end holes

International Journal of Damage Mechanics, 2014
In the present research, two brittle fracture criteria were developed in terms of the notch stress intensity factors to predict mode I fracture in engineering components weakened by V-notches with end holes (VO-notches). The criteria were based on the point stress and the mean stress failure concepts. To evaluate the validity of the criteria, first, 36

Size Effects in the Charpy V-Notch Test

International Journal of Fracture, 2002
Issues related to the size dependence of the upper shelf energy (USE) and the ductile-to-brittle transition temperature (DBTT) in the Charpy V-notch test are investigated. Emphasis is placed on the interplay between inertial, strain rate hardening, strain hardening, thermal softening and material length scale effects.

An experimental study of the V-notch fatigue test

Journal of the Mechanics and Physics of Solids, 1959
Abstract R otating bending tests were carried out on sharply notched specimens of several materials. Logarithmic plotting gave S - N curves consisting of straight lines of a gradient common to all materials, suggesting a power law of crack propagation.

Generalization of the Kitagawa Diagram to V-Notched Members

1989
From a mechanical analysis of plastic yielding in V-notch stress singularities and the experimental result that the driving force of a short crack is minimum at the end of the notch cyclic plastic zone, a general formulation of the endurance limit of V-notched members as a function of the length of a precrack is derived.

Experimental analysis of Charpy V-notch specimens

2002
The objective of this study is to provide experimental results, for modelling Charpy V-notch tests carried out on A508 steel. This modelling is presented in a companion paper [1]. Test results on tempered bainitic A508 steel are shown, including the mesurement of the absorbed energy over a wide range of impact velocities, covering quasi-static tests ...
