Bipolar hemiarthroplasty for intracapsular fracture neck of femur in elderly [PDF]

open access: yesPerspectives In Medical Research, 2019
Introduction: The treatment of choice for a displaced intracapsularfemoral neck fracture in elderly patients is hemiarthroplasty. The optimal design, unipolar or bipolar head, remains unclear.

Probing Hydrodynamics in PbPb Collisions at 5.02 TeV with Higher-order Cumulants [PDF]

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences
The elliptic flow of charged hadrons is studied through multiparticle correlations in PbPb collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 0.607 nb−1.

Clinical performance of the urine‐based TERT promoter AbsoluteQ Digital PCR for non‐invasive detection of bladder cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
A urine‐based digital PCR assay targeting two hotspot TERT promoter variants detected bladder cancer with high sensitivity and no false positives in this case–control cohort. The streamlined AbsoluteQ workflow outperformed Sanger sequencing and supports non‐invasive molecular testing for bladder cancer detection.

Nuclear pore links Fob1‐dependent rDNA damage relocation to lifespan control

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Damaged rDNA accumulates at a specific perinuclear interface that couples nucleolar escape with nuclear envelope association. Nuclear pores at this site help inhibit Fob1‐induced rDNA instability. This spatial organization of damage handling supports a functional link between nuclear architecture, rDNA stability, and replicative lifespan in yeast.

Wide variations in Medieval French unambiguous V2 configurations are due to register

open access: yesLinguistics
Quantitative studies of V2 in Medieval French have produced diverging results with respect to the rate of use of V2 and the informational value of the initial XP. These divergences are hypothesized to relate to the register of investigated texts.

Effects of Lidocaine Alone Versus Lidocaine–Dexmedetomidine Infusion on Pulmonary Gas Exchange and Respiratory Mechanics During Isoflurane Anesthesia in Horses

open access: yesVeterinary Sciences
Dexmedetomidine improves pulmonary function in dogs and humans, but evidence in horses is scarce. This study evaluated dexmedetomidine infusion on oxygenation and respiratory mechanics in anesthetized horses.

Long‐term hippocampal alterations and cognitive impairment in a murine model of surgical sepsis

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Using a mouse model of surgical sepsis, we tested long‐term memory and analyzed the transcriptome of single cells isolated from the hippocampus. Survivor mice showed worse memory, loss of certain brain cell subpopulations, and abnormal immune cell activity—suggesting that post‐sepsis brain alterations may be linked to cognitive deficits.
