Crime scene DNA sampling by wet-vacuum applying M-VAC

open access: yes, 2015
A possible alternative to conventional stain recovery by swabbing, taping or cutting, is the M-Vac wet-vacuum instrument (M-Vac Systems Inc.). We have evaluated M-Vac for sampling of dried saliva on porous and non-porous surfaces, shed cells on clothes ...

RNA degradomics and proteomics reveal the mechanism of dsProsβ1‐mediated proteasome targeting in Psylliodes chrysocephala

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
RNA degradomics revealed dsProsβ1‐derived siRNA‐mediated mRNA cleavage events, mainly at uracil‐guanine and adenine‐adenine pairs. Proteasome inhibition via dsProsβ1 increased mitochondrial and cytoskeletal proteins while reducing translation‐related and mRNA‐binding proteins.

Roll‐to‐Roll Processing of Biodegradable Multilayer Barrier Packaging Structures

open access: yesPackaging Technology and Science, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates that novel packaging materials built using biobased and biodegradable materials can be produced in pilot‐scale and converted into functional barrier packaging. The proposed structures are anticipated to make a strong impact in use‐cases where the risk of environmental littering is elevated, such as snacks and take away meals ...

Deterministic Switching‐Path Engineering of CMOS‐Integrated 2D Memristors for Neuromorphic Computing

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Deterministic grain‐boundary engineering in 2D MoTe2 defines resistive switching paths, while CMOS transistors impose gate‐tunable current compliance in a monolithically integrated 1T–1 M array. The resulting artificial synapses show stable, linear, and low‐variation analog weight updates, illustrating how materials‐level defect control can be ...

Interventions that prevent or respond to intimate partner violence against women and violence against children: a systematic review

open access: yesThe Lancet Public Health
Summary: Efforts to prevent or respond to intimate partner violence (IPV) and violence against children (VAC) are still disparate worldwide, despite increasing evidence of intersections across these forms of violence.

Crystallinity Effects on Near‐Infrared Photoresponse in Y6‐Based Organic Phototransistors

open access: yesSmall, EarlyView.
Solution‐processed Y6 thin films are investigated as active layers of organic field‐effect transistors and as near‐infrared photodetectors. Enhanced crystallinity in Y6 films induced by thermal annealing leads to improved charge transport and pronounced photoresponsivity.

Analyses of the Deformability and Chemistry of Non‐Metallic Inclusions in QT Steels With Increased Recycling‐Induced Tramp Element Content

open access: yessteel research international, EarlyView.
This work uses high‐temperature dilatometry to examine how the tramp elements Cu, Ni, and Sn affect the deformability of non‐metallic inclusions and matrix in quench‐and‐temper steel. Mg‐bearing inclusions deform less than Mg‐free ones. Copper lowers formability. Nickel increases deformability.

Bond, tension‐stiffening, and cracking in multi‐generational recycled aggregate concrete subjected to shrinkage strains

open access: yesStructural Concrete, EarlyView.
Abstract The concrete industry is responsible for a significant portion of global waste production and multi‐generation recycled aggregate concrete (MGRAC) is a means to allow the sector to transition to a circular economy framework. To predict the behavior of MGRAC at the member level there is a need to understand the underlying mechanics of bond ...

Metastatic carcinoma of uncertain primary site::A retrospective review of 57 patients treated with vincristine, doxorubicin, cyclophosphamide (VAC) or VAX alternating with cisplatin and etoposide (VAC/PE)

open access: yes, 1994
Background: Metastatic carcinoma of uncertain primary site (CUPS) is a common problem and has a poor prognosis. The intention of this study was to determine whether the addition of cisplatin and etoposide (PE) to vincristine, doxorubicin and ...
