Fracture Stratigraphy of the Vaca Muerta Formation

78th EAGE Conference and Exhibition 2016, 2016
In shale reservoirs, where permeabilities are low, additional stimulation is required to ensure economic production (Warpinski et al., 2009). In the case of the Vaca Muerta shale in Argentina the mechanical behaviour of the rock as it relates to the ability of natural and induced fractures to sustain hydraulic conductivity pathways is considered the ...

Vaca Muerta Corrosiveness and Its Impact in Production Strategy

Day 2 Tue, March 21, 2023, 2023
AbstractThe complexity of the problem and the severity of corrosion found at certain fields of shale gas in Vaca Muerta made necessary to develop a program that included predictive analysis through semi-empirical corrosion-erosion models, comparison of materials through the installation of coupons in downhole wells and, finally, the execution of ...

Type Curves for Vaca Muerta Horizontal Wells

SPE Argentina Exploration and Production of Unconventional Resources Symposium, 2018
Abstract The increasing number of drilled, completed, and produced horizontal wells in Vaca Muerta enables strengthening the generation of its type curves. The samples can be categorized by produced fluid, landing zone, and eventually by other criteria, reaching statistical significance and, thereby, enabling the preparation of type ...

Diverse eucritic pebbles in the Vaca Muerta mesosiderite

Earth and Planetary Science Letters, 1987
Seven 5-cm basaltic pebbles from the Vaca Muerta mesosiderite were studied by neutron activation and electron microprobe analysis, and three additional pebbles were studied petrographically. The cumulate pebbles had low REE concentrations and high Eu/Sm ratios, indicating the absence of intercumulus liquid.

Integrated seismic reservoir chacterization of Vaca Muerta shale

SEG Technical Program Expanded Abstracts 2014, 2014
Summary The Vaca Muerta (VM) formation, covering approximately 30,000 square kilometers in Argentina's Neuquen Basin, is a developing unconventional resource play. The giant Vaca Muerta shale oil and gas field has an estimated resource potential of 600+ billion barrels of oil and 1,000+ TCF of natural gas.

Vaca Muerta Numerical Simulation: A Warning in Compositional Modelling

SPE Argentina Exploration and Production of Unconventional Resources Symposium, 2018
Abstract The paper highlights the limitations in the use of cubic equations of state (CEOS), for modelling reservoir behavior of liquid phase (black and volatile oil), in highly undersaturated reservoirs. This is important in high shrinkage volatile oils for which complex dependence of fluid behavior with composition is found.

Optimism and Activity Rising in the Vaca Muerta

Journal of Petroleum Technology, 2017
Optimism and Activity Rising in the Vaca Muerta Confidence in the geologic potential of Argentina’s unconventional resource plays is higher than ever, which is turning the focus to how and when oil and gas producers there will ramp up commercial levels of production.

Road to Success in MPD - Vaca Muerta Case History

IADC/SPE Managed Pressure Drilling and Underbalanced Operations Conference and Exhibition, 2019
Abstract Challenging drilling operations in the Vaca Muerta unconventional shale gas play have prompted operators to implement innovative drilling techniques to improve drillability and operational efficiency. Significant benefits have been reported by utilizing Managed Pressure Drilling (MPD), Underbalanced Drilling (UBD), and/or ...

Advanced Reservoir Characterization in Vaca Muerta using Chemical Tracer Technology

Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition & Conference, 2017
Abstract The selection of the objective target in unconventional shale formations is a determinant factor on the productivity of wells. In thick unconventional formations, as is Vaca Muerta, the operators are looking for new ways of quantifying the production of each stage of hydraulic fracturing executed in the well.
