Boosting neuraminidase immunity in the presence of hemagglutinin with the next generation of influenza vaccines

open access: yesnpj Vaccines
Neuraminidase (NA), the second most abundant surface glycoprotein on the influenza virus, plays a key role in viral replication and propagation. Despite growing evidence showing that NA-specific antibodies correlate with resistance to disease in humans ...

Decision-making for PCV in adults

open access: yesHuman Vaccines & Immunotherapeutics, 2019
Thirteen-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13) was licensed in adults to address the unmet medical need of vaccine-type community acquired pneumonia (CAP) and the limitations of previous plain-polysaccharide vaccines.

Biomaterial Strategies for Targeted Intracellular Delivery to Phagocytes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Phagocytes are essential to a functional immune system, and their behavior defines disease outcomes. Engineered particles offer a strategic opportunity to target phagocytes, harnessing inflammatory modulation in disease. By tuning features like size, shape, and surface, these systems can modulate immune responses and improve targeted treatment for a ...

The Effectiveness of California Assembly Bill 2109: Personal Belief Exemptions for Kindergarten Immunizations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
The numbers of vaccine preventable diseases (VPDs) in the United States has declined with the development, administration, and effectiveness of vaccines during the 1970s and 1980s.

Next‐Generation Bio‐Reducible Lipids Enable Enhanced Vaccine Efficacy in Malaria and Primate Models

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Structure–activity relationship (SAR) optimization of bio‐reducible ionizable lipids enables the development of highly effective lipid nanoparticle (LNP) mRNA vaccines. Lead LNPs show superior tolerability and antibody responses in rodents and primates, outperforming approved COVID‐19 vaccine lipids.

From Exciton Dynamics to Cell Fate: A Carbon Dot Based NIR Photocatalytic Platform for Pyroptosis via Self‐Trapped Excitons

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A facile and effective method to boost NIR light induced photocatalysis based on nontoxic NIR emissive carbon dots (nir‐CDs) via Self‐trapped excitons, showing that both O2− • and •OH can be generated from nir‐CDs under NIR laser irradiation. Abstract Near‐infrared (NIR) light‐triggered photocatalytic therapy remains a critical challenge in efficient ...
