A Hybrid Bioprinting–Microfabrication Approach to Controllable Multitype Spheroid Arrays for Modeling Tumor Heterogeneity

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This work introduces a “cancer‐in‐a‐well” technology that recreates tumor heterogeneity in vitro using multitype spheroid arrays. Combining bioprinting/microdispensing with microstructured culture devices, the system improves drug screening and modeling of tumor complexity.

Vacuum-assisted closure in the treatment of poststernotomy mediastinitis

open access: yesThe Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 1999
A new technique using vacuum-assisted closure was successfully applied in 3 patients with poststernotomy mediastinitis. After surgical debridement, this vacuum-assisted closure technique has made it possible to avoid the need for secondary surgical closure (including direct secondary surgical closure and secondary surgical closure by use of ...

Vacuum-assisted closure: indications and clinical experience

open access: yesEuropean Journal of Plastic Surgery, 2000
The use of subatmospheric pressure to promote wound healing has gradually found support in the past few years. The vacuum-assisted closure system uses a pump providing a continuous negative pressure of preferably 125 mmHg, which is distributed over the wound surface by an airtight covered foam.

Vacuum-assisted Closure of Enterocutaneous Fistula

Acta Chirurgica Belgica, 2007
The authors report their experience in the treatment of a posttraumatic enterocutaneous fistula with negative-pressure therapy. After sustaining an epigastric shot wound, a 33-year-old woman underwent three consecutive laparotomies, which eventually led to an open abdomen with the interposition of a surgical mesh.
