Vacuum-Assisted Closure for the Treatment of Fournier’s Gangrene
Urologia Internationalis, 2009Background: Fournier’s gangrene (FG) is a very aggressive necrotizing fasciitis involving subcutaneous fat and skin of scrotal and perineal regions. Vacuum-assisted closure (VAC) is a well-known method used to treat complex wounds. The authors for the first time enhance a multimodal strategy to treat the FG using VAC, reducing the ...

The Vacuum-Assisted Closure Device as a Bridge to Sternal Wound Closure
Annals of Plastic Surgery, 2001Sixteen patients were treated for sternal wound infections after undergoing cardiac procedures. Their management involved prompt surgical debridement and quantitative wound biopsies. At the time of the initial debridement, the Vacuum-Assisted Closure Device (V.A.C.) was placed in the open sternal wound.

Vacuum-Assisted Ladder Closure
Plastic Surgical Nursing, 2013Negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) has gained great recognition for its positive effects on enhancing the complex wound healing process. The aim of this limited presentation was to introduce the vacuum-assisted ladder closure (VALC) method as a novel wound care modality used in conjunction with NPWT that reduces wound closure time in complex wounds.

Vacuum-Assisted Closure of a Complex Pilonidal Sinus
Diseases of the Colon & Rectum, 2003The annual incidence of pilonidal sinus is approximately 26 per 100,000, of which complex pilonidal sinuses are the minority. Many different approaches have been described for managing simple cases. Treatment options for complex pilonidal sinus include excision with healing by secondary intention or plastic surgical procedures to obliterate the defect.
