Vacuum circuit breakers in cable networks

22nd International Conference and Exhibition on Electricity Distribution (CIRED 2013), 2013
The impact of switching over-voltages in a public distribution network on cable ageing and the occurrence of earth fault failure are discussed. It is concluded that 95% of the network remains unaffected by the behaviour of the VCB, and that switching over-voltages in the remaining connected Industrial sites don't propagate into the public network ...

Vacuum circuit breakers

1982
The vacuum circuit breaker has fascinated the switchgear designer for many years, primarily because of the great advantages of vacuum interrupters, which are: (a) They are entirely self contained, need no supplies of gases or liquids and emit no flame or gas.

Interruption life of vacuum circuit breakers

Proceedings ISDEIV. 19th International Symposium on Discharges and Electrical Insulation in Vacuum (Cat. No.00CH37041), 2002
Over the past few years, there has been an increased interest in the number of short circuit interruptions a vacuum circuit breaker is capable of before excessive wear occurs on the contacts. Several methods have been proposed for recording or extrapolating the interruption life of vacuum circuit breaker contacts and these have resulted in many ...

Arc Motion in Vacuum Circuit Breakers

IEEE Transactions on Plasma Science, 1986
Arc motion due to self-magnetic fields is investigated theoretically and experimentally. Using an array of four Hall probes 90° apart around a vacuum breaker, we unambiguously determine arc rotation. It is primarily the radio component of magnetic induction that causes this motion.

General Guidelines for Vacuum Circuit Breaker Application

IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, 1972
Vacuum circuit breakers have been used successfully in a variety of applications, spanning duties from fault interruption to highly repetitive arc-furnace switching. Application guidelines that have resulted from extensive engineering investigations and successful experience in service are described.

Russian vacuum circuit breakers for electrical networks

Proceedings of 17th International Symposium on Discharges and Electrical Insulation in Vacuum, 2002
Development of vacuum interrupters (VI) and vacuum circuit breakers (VCB) was started in the USSR under the guidance of V. Granovsky in the All-Union Electrotechnical Institute (VEI, 1955-1964) and then continued by his colleagues and scholars in different scientific and industrial establishments.

Vacuum circuit breaker with asymmetrical actuator

IEEE/PES Transmission and Distribution Conference and Exhibition, 2003
During the last decades vacuum replaced air, oil and almost SF/sub 6/ as switching medium in medium voltage circuit breakers. Beside the ecological and economic advantages vacuum is a proper solution for all switching applications. The range of applications last from switching of loads, such as transformers, motors to the switching of short circuit ...

Surge Limiters for Vacuum Circuit Breaker Switchgear

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 1987
The use of vacuum circult breakers In motor feeder applications (where motor terminal surge protection is not normally used) may require overvoltage surge protection within the switchgear to properly protect the motors. This need can be fulfilled by surge limiters designed for installation within the switchgear connected to the load side of the vacuum ...
