Multi-break vacuum circuit breakers are used in special applications because thry have better breaking capability and withstand higher breakdown voltage compared with single-break vacuum circuit breakers.

Distribution of electric field in vacuum interrupter during interrupting

The electric field distribution in a high-voltage vacuum interrupter is calculated and analyzed with the finite-element method. In the calculation, the potential on the electrodes is set asymmetric and the voltage on the floating shield is unknown. The influence of plasma conductivity and charges on electrode surface is also considered.
