Effect of a vacuum gradient on the consolidation of dredged slurry by vacuum preloading

Canadian Geotechnical Journal, 2021
In this paper, a large-scale indoor model test was carried out to reinforce dredged slurry by vacuum preloading, and the effect of the vacuum gradient on the reinforcement effect was studied. The vacuum pressure, volume of extracted water, average ground settlement, and excess pore-water pressure were monitored during the test.

The theory and practice of vacuum preloading

Computers and Geotechnics, 1992
Abstract The improvement mechanism of soft soil by the method of vacuum preloading and the Chinese contributions to this technology are introduced in this paper. A semi-analytical method is proposed for computation of consolidation of sand drain foundations under vacuum preloading. A simplified method for design of such foundations is also presented.

Consolidating Waste Slurry by Vacuum Preloading with Flocculation

Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering, 2020
Anionic polyacrylamide (APAM) and quicklime are used to improve vacuum preloading of waste slurry in Shanghai, China. To investigate the influence of these reagents on waste slurry sediment consolidation, tests on laboratory-scale models with and without the reagents were conducted and the results analyzed.

Airlift-assisted vacuum preloading: application of airlift via PVDs in vacuum preloading

Geosynthetics International
To improve consolidation pressure along the prefabricated vertical drain (PVD), the presented study introduced a novel technique, airlift-assisted vacuum preloading, which incorporated the concept of airlift into traditional vacuum preloading. The innovative approach involves intermittent injections of pressurized air at the bottom of the PVD.

Centrifuge Model Test of Vacuum Surcharge Preloading

CICTP 2015, 2015
Vacuum surcharge preloading for stabilizing soft soil foundation is becoming an increasingly popular ground improvement technique. Although many studies have been reported in literatures, few articles adopted the centrifuge model test. The Centrifuge model test technique is adopted to simulate a gravity field by changing centrifugal acceleration, in ...

Vacuum-Preloaded Hydrostatic Shoe for Centerless Grinding

CIRP Annals, 1999
Abstract An innovative workpiece support, vacuum-preloaded hydrostatic shoe, is developed for lobing and chatter suppression in centerless grinding. The hydrostatic shoe applies vacuum-preloading to a hydrostatic bearing so as to provide a workpiece support of non-contact, good damping and high stiffness.
