Treatment of municipal sludge by Fenton oxidation combined vacuum preloading
Environmental Science and Pollution Research, 2018Municipal sludge, composed of numerous types of organic matter with a gel structure, has high water content, low permeability coefficient, and poor mechanical properties. Fenton oxidation-assisted vacuum preloading method for municipal sludge treatment was proposed.

Abstract The combined vacuum and surcharge preloading technique is extensively used to accelerate the consolidation process of subsoils. The effect of vacuum pressure is often considered as a loading/unloading cycle of mean effective stress, such that elastic rebound occurs after vacuum removal, which cannot explain the observed postconstruction ...

In order to study influence of unloading of vacuum on stability of embankment whose soft ground is improved by vacuum combined with preloading, the change of effective stress of soft clay in the improved area is analyzed when vacuum is unloaded and the undrained shear strength of soft clay in the improved area after unloading of vacuum is deduced ...

Vacuum pressure distribution and pore pressure variation in ground improved by vacuum preloading
Canadian Geotechnical Journal, 2007This paper presents the difference between vacuum pressure and pore pressure reduction for vacuum preloading projects. The experimental results show that the pattern of the fluid flow under vacuum pressure can be classified into three categories—a single-phase water flow, an air–water two-phase flow, and a single-phase air flow.

Soil improvement for a road using the vacuum preloading method
Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers - Ground Improvement, 2003A case of using the vacuum preloading method to improve the foundation soil for a road in Tianjin, China, is presented. A vacuum load of 80 kPa was applied for 90 days to consolidate a 20 m thick soft clay layer. The ground settled for about 1·5 m. The average degree of consolidation estimated using settlement data was 90%.
