The Role of the Vagus Nerve in Fibromyalgia Syndrome.
Neuroscience and Biobehavioral Reviews, 2021Fibromyalgia (FM) syndrome is a common illness characterized by chronic widespread pain, sleep problems, fatigue, and cognitive difficulties. Dysfunctional neurotransmitter systems that influence the body's endogenous stress response systems are thought ...

Chemodectoma of the Vagus Nerve
Radiology, 1967Chemodectomas are tumors of the chemoreceptive system and occur at all sites where chemoreceptor bodies are found. The author was able to find reports of only 26 cases of chemodectoma originating from the cervical portion of the vagus nerve, and of these only 6 (1–6) gave a detailed description of the radiographic and angiographic findings. Case Report

The vagus nerve (X) consists of autonomic, sensory and motor fibers. It emerges by six to eight roots which leave the neuraxis via the posterior lateral sulcus of the medulla oblongata (Fig. 10.1; 10.2).

Ghrelin, a gastrointestinal hormone, stimulates feeding and secretion of growth hormone (GH). Ghrelin is thought to directly affect neurons involved in feeding or GH secretion through growth hormone secretagogue receptor (GHS-R; ghrelin receptor); however, it is still unclear whether ghrelin crosses through the blood-brain barrier.

Neurilemmoma of the Vagus Nerve in the Neck
Australian and New Zealand Journal of Surgery, 1968A case of neurilemmoma of the vagus nerve in the neck is described, in which excision with preservation of the nerve was possible. Attention is drawn to the typical clinical picture presented by these tumours. Recognition of this should make it possible to suspect the diagnosis preperatively and so greatly reduce the risks of operative damage to the ...

Human Vagus Nerve Electrophysiology
Journal of Clinical Neurophysiology, 2001The authors studied human vagus nerve electrophysiology intraoperatively on 21 patients (age range: 4 to 31 years) during implantation of a vagus nerve stimulator for seizure control. The study was performed with direct electrical stimulation of the vagus nerve with various stimulation parameters resembling those employed by the Cyberonics ...

Schwannoma of the Cervical Vagus Nerve
Pediatric Neurosurgery, 2007Nerve sheath tumors arising from the cervical vagus nerve are extremely rare and difficult to diagnose. We report a 14-year-old boy who presented with a several month history of an asymptomatic right cervical swelling. Ultrasound and fine needle aspiration cytology revealed a vascular lesion.

Neurofibrosarcoma of the Vagus Nerve
New England Journal of Medicine, 1950NEUROGENIC tumors of the anterior mediastinum are comparatively rare. Kent et al.1 collected a personal series of 21 neurogenic tumors of the mediastinum at the Barnes Hospital and reviewed 105 cases discovered in the literature. There were only 2 anterior neurogenic tumors in the series at the Barnes Hospital, and only 3 additional cases were found in
