A permutation approach to validation*

Statistical Analysis and Data Mining: The ASA Data Science Journal, 2010
AbstractWe give a permutation approach to validation (estimation of out‐sample error). One typical use of validation is model selection. We establish the legitimacy of the proposed permutation complexity by proving a uniform bound on the out‐sample error, similar to a Vapnik‐Chervonenkis (VC)‐style bound.

Anhedonia: A Construct Validation Approach

Journal of Personality Assessment, 1983
Investigated the convergent and discriminant validity of the anhedonia construct using a multivariable-multimethod design. The 100 subjects displayed a wide range of scores on the Physical Anhedonia Scale, many comparable to the original validation sample of diagnosed schizophrenics.

Validating scheduling approaches against executional uncertainty

Journal of Intelligent Manufacturing, 2008
This paper introduces a general methodology to perform a comparative evaluation of different approaches to the problem of scheduling with uncertainty. Different proactive (off-line) and reactive (on-line) scheduling policies are evaluated by simulating the execution of a number of baseline schedules under uncertain environmental conditions, and ...

Method Validation Revisited: A Chemometric Approach

Pharmaceutical Research, 1990
A validation procedure is presented that satisfies the FDA requirements of accuracy (including precision repeatability), sensitivity, linearity, dynamic range, and homoscedasticity, all with a single set of data. The procedure utilizes the corrigible error correction (CEC) technique comprised of three response curves--standard, Youden one-sample, and ...

A practical approach to content validation

Applied Nursing Research, 1991
Often researchers are unable to find instruments to estimate variables they want to investigate. Once the variable of interest has been defined and operationalized, demonstrating content validity is the next step in the instrument development process.

An approach to health data validation

Computers and Biomedical Research, 1980
Abstract To identify occupational disease and injury patterns, case records from existing computer systems were assembled into a data base. A single computer program detects errors in all of these diversly formatted files. To detect errors in a data file (i.e., to validate the data), the user supplies specifications defining a set or range of ...

Dyslexia: Approaches to Validation

Child and Adolescent Mental Health, 1998
There is much wisdom in these two essays on dyslexia, by Snowling and by Coltheart and Jackson, as well as a useful and informative summary of many key research findings. Given the fact that debates about the diagnosis and concept of dyslexia have been running for at least the last 40 years (see e.g. Rutter, 1969), and given the immense amount of

Cleaning Validation—Lifecycle Approach

2019
Endotoxin is a powerful biological response modifier that can elicit a wide range of effects, including fever, shock, and death. Endotoxin contamination of parenteral medications is of particular concern because these products are administered directly into the body, bypassing the protective barriers of the skin and the intestinal wall.

Validating requirements: the evolutionary approach

Proceedings. The Twenty-Second Annual International Computer Software and Applications Conference (Compsac '98) (Cat. No.98CB 36241), 2002
Industrial practices in requirements engineering do not give the right place to formal methods. Two main reasons explain why such a failure arises. First of all, formal methods have not promoted a dedicated SLC (software life cycle) which should have been easily integrated within the upper phases of the traditional V-like or Waterfall-like model.

Statistical Approaches to PD Validation

2006
When developing an internal rating system, besides its calibration, the validation of the respective rating categories and associated probabilities of default plays an important role. To have a valid risk estimate and allocate economic capital efficiently, a credit institution has to be sure of the adequacy of its risk measurement methods and of the ...
