Exposure to common noxious agents (1), including allergens, pollutants, and micro‐nanoplastics, can cause epithelial barrier damage (2) in our body's protective linings. This may trigger an immune response to our microbiome (3). The epithelial barrier theory explains how this process can lead to chronic noncommunicable diseases (4) affecting organs ...

Validation and validity of verbal autopsy procedures [PDF]
Commentary Methods for interpreting verbal autopsy (VA) that have been validated fall into two major categories: (1) physician-certified verbal autopsy (PCVA), the commonlyused method in which one or more physicians ascertain causes of death based on their clinical judgment; and (2) computerized coding of verbal autopsy (CCVA), in which causes of death

This paper presents a theoretical account of legal validity. We begin with a very simple criterial account of validity and discuss the possibility of elimination of such concept by means of procedure described in Ross' paper Tû-Tû. Then we discuss more ambitious theoretical proposals concerning validity, advocated by Grabowski and ...

The anabolic steroid stanozolol is a potent inhibitor of human MutT homolog 1
MutT homolog 1 (MTH1) is a member of the NUDIX superfamily of enzymes and is an anticancer drug target. We show that stanozolol (Stz), an anabolic steroid, is an unexpected nanomolar inhibitor of MTH1. The X‐ray crystal structure of the human MTH1–Stz complex reveals a unique binding scaffold that could be utilized for future inhibitor development ...

Imeglimin attenuates liver fibrosis by inhibiting vesicular ATP release from hepatic stellate cells
Imeglimin, at clinically relevant concentrations, inhibits vesicular ATP accumulation and release from hepatic stellate cells, thereby attenuating purinergic signaling and reducing fibrogenic activation. This mechanism reveals a newly identified antifibrotic action of imeglimin beyond glycemic control.

Combining melting curve analysis enhances the multiplexing capability of digital PCR. Here, we developed a 14‐plex assay to simultaneously measure single nucleotide mutations and amplifications of KRAS and GNAS, which are common driver genes in pancreatic cancer precursors. This assay accurately quantified variant allele frequencies in clinical samples
