Valproic acid and secondary hyperammonemia
Neurology, 1981An 11-year-old girl with complex seizures was started on valproic acid (VPA) in addition to clonazepam and ethosuximide. Shortly thereafter, she developed marked hyperammonemia that was worsened by a protein load. The hyperammonemia improved somewhat when protein was not given, and it resolved on discontinuation of the valproic acid.

Hypoalbuminemia with valproic acid administration
Pediatric Neurology, 2003Valproic acid and its derivatives are commonly administered antiepileptic drugs for children and adults. Five residents at a children's long-term care facility manifested hypoalbuminemia while being administered divalproex, although serum liver function test results and urinalysis results were normal. When the patients were free from valproic acid, the

Therapeutic Monitoring of Valproic Acid
Therapeutic Drug Monitoring, 1980Valproic acid, a new type of antiepileptic drug, has developed into one of the drugs of first choice in all types of epilepsy with the exception of infantile spasms and partial seizures. Due to its short biological half-life, a steady-state plasma concentration will be reached rapidly after initiation of therapy. However, no direct relationship between

Drug Interactions with Valproic Acid
Drugs, 1982Valproic acid undergoes drug-drug interactions with most of the commonly used anticonvulsants. Since it possesses a wide range of indications, concomitant use with other anticonvulsants, and hence interactions, are not infrequent. Many of these interactions are reciprocal and may have important therapeutic consequences.

valproic acid induced neutropenia
Journal of Experimental & Clinical Medicine, 2002Valproic acid is an important anticonvulsant agent but it has some serious side effects. Neutropenia is one of them. A one-year old female patient applied to our hospital for control. Neutropenia was determined in her complete blood count. She was given some specific diagnostic tests to explain the cause of neutropenia. At the end of the evaluation, it

Valproic Acid Metabolism and its Consequences on Sexual Functions.
Current drug metabolism, 2016BACKGROUND Valproic acid (VPA) is a broad spectrum antiepileptic drug (AED) that is generally regarded as a first-choice agent for most forms of idiopathic and symptomatic generalised epilepsies.
