Structure-function relationships in the aortic valve [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
PhDGlobally, heart valve dysfunction constitutes a large portion of the cardiovascular disease load, causing high rates of mortality in European and industrialized countries.

Valve-in-Valve Procedure in Failed Transcatheter Aortic Valves

open access: yesJACC: Cardiovascular Imaging, 2019
Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is being increasingly used for the treatment of severe native aortic valve stenosis. Initially performed in patients with prohibitive or high surgical risk, TAVR is now considered as a valid alternative in patients with intermediate risk and is ...

Impact of Asymptomatic Intracranial Hemorrhage on Outcome After Endovascular Stroke Treatment

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Endovascular treatment (EVT) achieves high rates of recanalization in acute large‐vessel occlusion (LVO) stroke, but functional recovery remains heterogeneous. While symptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (sICH) has been well studied, the prognostic impact of asymptomatic intracranial hemorrhage (aICH) after EVT is less certain ...

Double orifice mitral valve associated with Ventricular Septal Defect in an infant : case report [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Double orifice mitral valve (DOMV) is an uncommon anomaly characterized by a mitral valve with a single fibrous annulus with two orifices opening into the left ventricle.

Assessing the Sensitivity and the Clinical Impact of the 2023 American College of Rheumatology/EULAR Classification Criteria in Obstetric Antiphospholid Syndrome: Findings From a Multicenter Italian Cohort With a Long‐Term Follow‐Up

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective The aim of this study was to evaluate the sensitivity of the 2023 American College of Rheumatology (ACR)/EULAR classification criteria for antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) in a real‐world cohort of women diagnosed with primary obstetric APS (oAPS) and to assess their ability to identify patients at risk of future pregnancy complications ...

Comparative Anatomy of Mitral and Tricuspid Valve: What Can the Interventionlist Learn From the Surgeon

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2018
Transcatheter valve interventions on the mitral and tricuspid valves entail increasing complexity. Part of the knowledge that has been generated during the development of mitral devices can be transferred to the tricuspid valve (TV).

A meta‐analysis of valve‐in‐valve and valve‐in‐ring transcatheter mitral valve implantation [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Interventional Cardiology, 2018
ObjectivesWe performed a meta‐analysis of transcatheter mitral valve implantation (TMVI) for deteriorated bioprosthetic valves (valve‐in‐valve [VIV]‐TMVI) and/or failed annuloplasty rings (valve‐in‐ring [VIR]‐TMVI), comparing observed early (30‐day) mortality with predicted operative mortality.BackgroundIt remains unclear whether VIV/VIR‐TMVI reduces ...

Air‐Pressure–Actuated Vibroacoustic Metamaterial With Tunable Bandgap: Design, Modeling, and Characterization

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents the design, modeling, and characterization of air‐pressure–actuated programmable vibroacoustic metamaterials (PVAMM). The study focuses on leveraging air pressure to dynamically tune resonance frequencies for effective noise attenuation.

Symbolic Regression and Multi‐Objective Optimization of the Flory–Huggins Interaction Parameter for Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We develop a data‐driven method to derive the mathematical expressions of the Flory–Huggins interaction parameter χ for the swelling behavior of temperature–responsive hydrogels. Starting from initial assumptions of χ, our workflow combines Bayesian optimization, Flory–Rehner theory, and symbolic regression to generate candidate χ expressions.

A Non‐Reciprocal Architected Porous Medium

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In several fluid flow, energy‐dumping, and energy‐harvesting applications, a dominant flow direction or dominant resistance direction is desirable. In this study, we propose a simple modular geometry that doubles flow resistance in one direction relative to the opposite direction, while maintaining laminar viscous flow.
