Response to Allopurinol and Febuxostat According to the Fractional Excretion of Urate in Men With Gout

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Body mass index (BMI), glomerular filtration rate (GFR), and pretreatment urate levels have been reported to influence the urate‐lowering response to allopurinol. We investigated whether the fractional excretion of uric acid (FEUA) also modulates this response and relates to oxypurinol concentrations.

Eliciting Patient Risk Willingness in Clinical Consultations as a Means of Improving Decision‐Making of Aortic Valve Replacement

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease, 2016
BackgroundTreatment decisions for aortic valve replacement (AVR) should be sensitive to patient preferences. However, we lack knowledge of patient preferences and how to obtain them. Methods and ResultsWe assessed the mortality risk patients were willing

Circuit exhibits power efficiency greater than 75 percent [PDF]

open access: yes, 1966
Variable duty cycle pulser increases circuit power efficiency by more than 75 percent when operating solenoid valves. The pulser provides a low-level holding current after a high-level current has actuated the solenoid ...

Electrical microfluidic pressure gauge for elastomer microelectromechanical systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
We report on an electrical microfluidic pressure gauge. A polydimethylsiloxane microvalve closes at a characteristic applied pressure determined by the material's properties and the valve's dimensions.

Valve-in-Valve Procedure in Failed Transcatheter Aortic Valves

open access: yesJACC: Cardiovascular Imaging, 2019
Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is being increasingly used for the treatment of severe native aortic valve stenosis. Initially performed in patients with prohibitive or high surgical risk, TAVR is now considered as a valid alternative in patients with intermediate risk and is ...

Assessing the Sensitivity and the Clinical Impact of the 2023 American College of Rheumatology/EULAR Classification Criteria in Obstetric Antiphospholid Syndrome: Findings From a Multicenter Italian Cohort With a Long‐Term Follow‐Up

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective The aim of this study was to evaluate the sensitivity of the 2023 American College of Rheumatology (ACR)/EULAR classification criteria for antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) in a real‐world cohort of women diagnosed with primary obstetric APS (oAPS) and to assess their ability to identify patients at risk of future pregnancy complications ...

Handbook of Establishing and Maintaining Oxygen‐Free Atmospheres

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents a practical framework for creating oxygen‐free atmospheres at ambient pressure using silane‐doped inert gases. The results show that ultra‐low oxygen levels and strongly reduced water content can be achieved through controlled silane dosing, drying systems, and sensor monitoring.

Matching flow characteristics of standard shutoff valves eliminates need for custom fabricated valves [PDF]

open access: yes, 1966
Standard high pressure valves are used in low pressure fluid system testing when a substantial system pressure increase is required. The flow-vs-valve stroke is matched with that of the valves being replaced.

A meta‐analysis of valve‐in‐valve and valve‐in‐ring transcatheter mitral valve implantation [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Interventional Cardiology, 2018
ObjectivesWe performed a meta‐analysis of transcatheter mitral valve implantation (TMVI) for deteriorated bioprosthetic valves (valve‐in‐valve [VIV]‐TMVI) and/or failed annuloplasty rings (valve‐in‐ring [VIR]‐TMVI), comparing observed early (30‐day) mortality with predicted operative mortality.BackgroundIt remains unclear whether VIV/VIR‐TMVI reduces ...

Effect of Oxygen Content on Surface and Subsurface Integrity During Turning of Ti–6Al–4V

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines how oxygen content in the ambient atmosphere affects the surface and subsurface properties of Ti–6Al–4V during turning. Results show that oxygen does not influence surface roughness. However, machining in an extremely high vacuum‐adequate atmosphere increases surface hardness by up to 7.8% and induces compressive residual stresses ...
