Analysis of the Pull-In Phenomenon in Microelectromechanical Varactors
2012 25th International Conference on VLSI Design, 2012High-Q factor voltage controlled oscillators (VCO) need a wide tuning range and low phase noise over gigahertz ranges of frequency which depends on the tunability of the capacitors in the LC tank circuit. The reasons behind the development of a micro electro mechanical (MEM) varactor were the difficulties encountered in the realization of on-chip ...

Microwave Photoinduced Varactor on Silicon Substrate
30th European Microwave Conference, 2000, 2000In this paper, we show that when a metallic microstrip line deposited on silicon is illuminated at its end while its entry is being connected to an ultra high frequency generator, a photoinduced load is obtained at its extremity. It is proven by experimental and simulation results that this load behaves as a « photoinduced varactor ».

Optically controlled varactor diode
Journal of Applied Physics, 1991We describe the design and operating characteristics of an optically controlled varactor diode. Applications include optically controlled microwave elements and detection of optical signals in lightwave receivers. The structure consists of a p-n junction formed in an epitaxial layer of InP grown by metalorganic chemical vapor deposition on a semi ...

Instabilities in Varactor Multipliers
G-MTT International Symposium Digest, 2005Operating instability and spurious oscillations are principal factors preventing widespread success with varactor frequency multipliers. This paper outlines a theory of multiplier instability which relates universal characteristics of non-linear resonant circuits to the observed behavior of varactor multipliers and multiplier chains.

Invariant sets for the varactor equation
Proceedings of the Royal Society A: Mathematical, Physical and Engineering Sciences, 2005The differential equation with f ( t ) positive, periodic and continuous is studied. After describing some physical applications of this equation, we construct a variety of invariant sets for it, thereby partitioning the phase plane into ...

Proceedings of the IEEE, 1967
This letter gives efficiency and power handling capacities of frequency doublers and up-converters for negative values of γ where S(V) = V1/γ. It is shown that negative values of γ yield greater efficiencies than varactors with γ = 1/2, 1/3, and 0 which are commonly used.

A Continuously Tuned Varactor Array
IEEE Microwave and Wireless Components Letters, 2009A MOS varactor circuit uses an array of softly switched varactors to improve the linearity of the capacitance tuning-control and reduce the dependence on RF-input signal level while increasing the useful capacitance-tuning range. Test circuits have been fabricated in both 90 nm and 0.35 mum CMOS processes and are directly compared to a conventional ...

Measurement of the Parameters of the Varactor
1973The manufacturers of low-frequency varactors are often sparing with precise particulars: it is seldom possible to have available the values of the different parameters and their stability and tolerances. A knowledge of these data is essential for the production of a reliable and reproducible amplifier.

Control of Parameters of Varactor Diodes
IETE Journal of Research, 1969The important parameters of a diffused silicon varactor diode are related to process parameters. Each processing step is analysed for yield and spread in the process parameters it controls. The final yield of the fabrication process and the spread in the device parameters involve yield and spread for each step. Practical results show that the yield and
