Crack Opening Under Variable Amplitude Loads

1989
Crack growth rate tests were conducted on eleven compact tension specimens of A588A steel plate to assess the ability of linear cumulative damage models to estimate fatigue life under load-time histories composed of cycles of variable amplitude and mean. Crack opening was monitored using a clip gage and through transmission ultrasonics.

Fatigue Behavior of AM60B Subjected to Variable Amplitude Loading

2013
Magnesium alloys are considered as an alternative material to reduce vehicle weight due to their weight which are 33% lighter than aluminum alloys. There has been a significant expansion in the applications of magnesium alloys in automotives components in an effort to improve fuel efficiency through vehicle mass reduction.

Permanent strains from cyclic variable-amplitude loadings

International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Mining Sciences & Geomechanics Abstracts, 1986
Cyclic triaxial tests were performed on a well‐graded railroad ballast with a maximum particle size of 38 mm (1.5 in.). Samples were compacted in a split mold to reproduceable density states and subjected to repeated applications of compressive axial stresses.

DURABILITY TESTS: statistical analysIs for variable amplitude loads

Transactions of the Canadian Society for Mechanical Engineering, 2017
The reduced time available for product evolution has forced original equipment manufacturers and their suppliers to develop new components and subsystems more rapidly, while taking into consideration the reliability of the final product in terms of its durability.

Effect of high-amplitude loading on accumulated fatigue damage under variable-amplitude loading in 316 stainless steel

International Journal of Fatigue, 2018
Abstract To investigate whether high-amplitude stress and cycle ratios affect cumulative fatigue damage below the fatigue limit in 316 stainless steel, fatigue tests were carried out under incorporating high- (fixed at 277 MPa) and low-amplitude stress in which high stress level was set higher than previous applied (fixed at 260 MPa) and low stresses

Analysis of Hysteresis Loop on the Basis of Variable-Amplitude Loading

Solid State Phenomena, 2016
The aim of this paper is to present a method to be used for analysis of stress-strain loops under variable amplitude loading. The method for determination of plastic strain energy parameter ΔWpl consists in determination of envelopes around stress-strain branches (increasing and decreasing) formed in effect of application of a loading program.

Fatigue crack propagation under variable-amplitude loading

Strength of Materials, 1977
A finite-element analysis has been performed to investigate quantitatively the level at which fatigue crack surfaces come into contact during fatigue cycles. The results agreed well with experimental observations and suggest that quantitative design rules may be developed, based upon the crack-closure hypothesis.
