Variable geometry impeller centrifugal pump
AbstractThe article compares the energy efficiency of the pump installation in a changing flow rate for options without flow control and with regulation by reducing the shaft speed and trimming the impeller. A comparison of these methods. A description is given of the operation of the pumping unit with a self-trimming impeller and an algorithm for ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Impact of variable geometry miniflaps on sailplane flight characteristics
Miniflaps (also known as mini-TED, active Gurnay flaps, etc.) located at the wing trailing edge enable to increase wing lift and reduce the aerodynamic drag.

Optimal Rotor Design of Synchronous Reluctance Machines Considering the Effect of Current Angle
The torque density and efficiency of synchronous reluctance machines (SynRMs) are greatly affected by the geometry of the rotor. Hence, an optimal design of the SynRM rotor geometry is highly recommended to achieve optimal performance (i.e., torque ...

Geometry and topology of complex hyperbolic and CR-manifolds
We study geometry, topology and deformation spaces of noncompact complex hyperbolic manifolds (geometrically finite, with variable negative curvature), whose properties make them surprisingly different from real hyperbolic manifolds with constant ...

Challenges and possibilities in variable geometry suspension systems [PDF]
The variable-geometry suspension system is in the focus of the paper. The advantages of the variable-geometry system are the simple structure, low energy consumption and low cost. During maneuvers the variable-geometry system modifies the camber angle of

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Confinement of Vibrations in Variable-Geometry Nonlinear Flexible Beam
In this paper, we propose a novel strategy for controlling a flexible nonlinear beam with the confinement of vibrations. We focus principally on design issues related to the passive control of the beam by proper selection of its geometrical and physical ...

This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

The intrinsic curvature of thermodynamic potentials for black holes with critical points [PDF]
The geometry of thermodynamic state space is studied for asymptotically anti-de Sitter black holes in D-dimensional space times. Convexity of thermodynamic potentials and the analytic structure of the response functions is analysed.
