CCD Photometry Using Multiple Comparison Stars [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Astronomy and Space Sciences, 2004
The accuracy of CCD observations obtained at the Korean 1.8 m telescope has been studied. Seventeen comparison stars in the vicinity of the cataclysmic variable BG CMi have been measured.

The M33 Variable Star Population Revealed by Spitzer

open access: yes, 2006
We analyze five epochs of Spitzer Space Telescope/Infrared Array Camera (IRAC) observations of the nearby spiral galaxy M33. Each epoch covered nearly a square degree at 3.6, 4.5, and 8.0 microns.

Search for Variable Stars in the Globular Cluster M3 [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
We describe here results of a photometric time-sequence survey of the globular cluster M3 (NGC 5272), in a search for contact and detached eclipsing binary stars.

An Adaptive Management Model for Brown Bears in Hokkaido: Based on Total Population and the Number of Nuisance Bears

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
Bear management changes management actions according to the horizontal axis of the population size and the vertical axis of the number of nuisance bears. Aiming for the target population size of Ntar, Actions I and II protect the bears, and Action IV reduces the population.

VVV-WIT-07: another Boyajian's star or a Mamajek's object?

open access: yes, 2018
We report the discovery of VVV-WIT-07, an unique and intriguing variable source presenting a sequence of recurrent dips with a likely deep eclipse in July 2012.

Speciation Through the Lens of Population Dynamics: A Theoretical Primer on How Small and Large Populations Diverge

open access: yesPopulation Ecology, EarlyView.
Population size and dynamics fundamentally shape speciation by influencing genetic drift, founder events, and adaptive potential. Small populations may speciate rapidly due to stronger drift, whereas large populations harbor more genetic diversity, which can alter divergence trajectories. We highlight theoretical models that incorporate population size

Search for LBV Candidates in the M33 Galaxy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
A total of 185 luminous blue variable (LBV) candidates with V < 18.5 and B-V < 0.35 are selected based on the photometrical Survey of Local Group Galaxies made by P. Massey et al. 2006.

Exploring lipid diversity and minimalism to define membrane requirements for synthetic cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Designing the lipid membrane of synthetic cells is a complex task, in which its various roles (among them solute transport, membrane protein support, and self‐replication) should all be integrated. In this review, we report the latest top‐down and bottom‐up advances and discuss compatibility and complexity issues of current engineering approaches ...

Four New Delta Scuti Pulsators from a Variability Survey of 131 Stars

open access: yes, 2002
In a photometric variability survey of 131 stars with B < 14 mag, we have found four new Delta Scuti stars. We were sensitive to oscillation amplitudes as low as a few mmag.
