Ground beetle (Coleoptera, Carabidae) diversity in Finnish arable land

open access: yesAgricultural and Food Science, 2008
Carabid data compiled from six independent studies, consisting of 97 799 individuals trapped by pitfalls from Finnish agricultural fields and identified to 111 species were analyzed. Shannon-Wiener H' diversity index was typically around 2.5 and expected

Modification of Shannon-Wiener Diversity Index towards Quantitative Estimation of Environmental Wellness and Biodiversity Levels under a Non-comparative Scenario [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Shannon-Wiener diversity index has been used extensively in environmental studies to estimate the species richness and abundance of ecosystems. The use of the index works very well under comparative situations; where one is comparing two or more ...

Floodplain connectivity, disturbance and change: a palaeoentomological investigation of floodplain ecology from south-west England [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
1. Floodplain environments are increasingly subject to enhancement and restoration, with the purpose of increasing their biodiversity and returning them to a more 'natural' state.

Polymorph‐Specific Electronic Transduction in WO3 during Molecular Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Metal‐oxide polymorphs with similar surface chemistry can nevertheless exhibit distinct sensing properties. In γ‐ and ε‐WO3, analyte adsorption appears comparable; yet, only ε‐WO3 induces a pronounced lattice electronic perturbation that accommodates charge in sub‐conduction band minimum states.

Harary Index - Twelve Years Later [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
A modification of the Harary index, denoted by H and introduced twelve years ago, is proposed. Unlike the original index, this index, called the modified Harary index and denoted by mH, consists of two parts: the first relates to greater contributions of

Hydrogel‐Based Airway‐on‐Tube With Perfusable Endothelial Lumen and Outward Epithelialization

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A hydrogel‐based airway‐on‐tube platform featuring a perfusable endothelial lumen and outward epithelialization is presented. The system supports primary human bronchial epithelial and lung microvascular endothelial coculture under air‐liquid interface conditions.

When Poor Exciton Dissociation Limits Photocurrents in Organic Solar Cells: Why Low Offset Non‐Fullerene Acceptor Blends Can't Be Efficient

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The energetic offset between the donor and the acceptor components in organic photoactive layers is central to the tradeoff between photovoltage and photocurrent losses. This Perspective covers the most important issues surrounding this topic in non‐fullerene acceptor blends, from the difficulty of accurately determining state energies and driving ...

Additively Manufactured Porous Ceramics as Tunable Dielectrics for Passive Temperature Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Porous ceramic lattices, 3D‐printed from a multicomponent oxide ink, are integrated with LC resonators for passive wireless temperature sensing. By tuning porosity, the dielectric properties and RF response are engineered to produce distinct resonant frequency shifts with temperature. The results establish a structure‐driven approach to customizing the
