Estimating the degree of activity of jumps in high frequency data

open access: yes, 2009
We define a generalized index of jump activity, propose estimators of that index for a discretely sampled process and derive the estimators' properties.

Selective Reflection of Chiral Ferroelectric Nematic Liquid Crystals Tuned by Electric Field Along the Helix Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
It is demonstrated that in chiral ferroelectric nematic liquid crystals sandwiched between electrically conducting transparent plates, the reflection color can be reversibly tuned by electric fields applied along the helix axis. The proposed theoretical model, assuming field‐induced coiling of the helix axis, accounts for all observations.

Temporal and Cell‐Specific Regulation of Synaptic Homeostasis by the Chromatin Remodeler Chd1

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Chd1, the Drosophila homologue of mammalian CHD2 ‐ a gene linked to autism, epilepsy, and intellectual disability, is required for synaptic homeostatic plasticity. Chd1 in glia is necessary for the rapid induction of synaptic homeostasis, whereas Chd1 in motoneurons, muscle, and glia is critical for long‐term maintenance.

Interaction and effects of temperature preference under a controlled environment on the diversity and abundance of the microbiome in Lutzomyia longipalpis (Diptera: Psychodidae)

open access: yesBiotechnology Reports
Characterization of the temperature effects on the abundance and richness of the microbiota of Lutzomyia longipalpis, insect vector of Leishmania infantum in America, is an aspect of pivotal importance to understand the interactions between temperature ...

Helix Alignment, Chevrons, and Edge Dislocations in Twist‐Bend Ferroelectric Nematics

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The recently discovered twist‐bend ferroelectric nematic (NTBF) is the new member of the multiferroic family, representing a fluid with an oblique helicoidal (heliconical) periodic structure of spontaneous electric polarization. The work presents a thorough exploration of the material properties of this phase, how the periodic modulation of ...

Search trees: Metric aspects and strong limit theorems

open access: yes, 2014
We consider random binary trees that appear as the output of certain standard algorithms for sorting and searching if the input is random. We introduce the subtree size metric on search trees and show that the resulting metric spaces converge with ...

Maternal Preconception Antibiotic Exposure Disrupts Microbial Succession: A Transgenerational Risk for Offspring Gut Mucosal Immaturity and Colitis Susceptibility

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals that maternal antibiotic exposure prior to conception disrupts intergenerational gut microbial succession. By enhancing maternal‐offspring microbial transmission, altering microbial developmental trajectories and increasing selective pressures during community assembly, these disturbances lead to persistent gut mucosal immaturity and

Statistical inference for Vasicek-type model driven by Hermite processes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Let $Z$ denote a Hermite process of order $q \geq 1$ and self-similarity parameter $H \in (\frac{1}{2}, 1)$. This process is $H$-self-similar, has stationary increments and exhibits long-range dependence.
