Shear wave modeling and Poisson's ratio in the Variscan Belt of SW Iberia.

open access: yes, 2011
In 2003 two wide-angle reflection/refraction seismic transects were acquired in the Variscan Belt of SW Iberia. The approximately 250 and 300 km long, dense trace spacing transects revealed clear S wave arrivals in the shot gathers recorded by vertical component sensors in both transects.

Incipient strain partitioning in a slate belt: Evidence from the early Variscan Monts d'Arree slate belt (Brittany, France)

open access: yes, 2007
Partitioning of strain is a fundamental process during mountain building. It commonly causes a compartmentalisation of a bulk regional strain into deformational domains with contrasting strain characteristics and largely oriented parallel to the orogenic

Paleogeographic inversion resulting from large out of sequence breaching thrusts: The León Fault (Cantabrian Zone, NW Iberia). A new picture of the external Variscan Thrust Belt in the Ibero-Armorican Arc

open access: yesGeologica Acta, 2009
Out of sequence breaching thrusts may give rise to duplication of a former thrust stack in map view in the same manner that stratigraphic units are repeated by initial thrusts.

Thermal studies on the lower Carboniferous basins of Khenifra and Qasbat-Tadla, Morocco: What do they teach us about the pre-Variscan stages in NW Africa?

open access: yes
Within the Variscan Belt of Morocco, the Central Massif preserves Early Carboniferous rift basins. The Lower Carboniferous Khenifra and Qasbat-Tadla basins are aborted rifts, developed just before the Variscan orogenesis in Morocco that occurred during ...
