Broadening the gates: Analysis of potentially modifiable study entry criteria in pancreatic and biliary tract cancer trials

open access: yesCancer, Volume 132, Issue 1, 1 January 2026.
Abstract Background Eligibility criteria for clinical trials are crucial for maintaining safety and study integrity. However, overly restrictive criteria can result in unrepresentative trial populations, leading to gaps in understanding real‐world treatment efficacy.

Splenic stiffness does not predict esophageal varices in children with portal hypertension

open access: yesJournal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition, Volume 82, Issue 1, Page 156-164, January 2026.
Abstract Objective To investigate ultrasound parameters, particularly splenic stiffness, as predictors of pediatric esophageal varices. Methods We included all children aged 0–19 years who underwent esophagogastroduodenoscopy, for variceal screening or surveillance, and abdominopelvic ultrasound with splenic elastography measurement.

Clinical Features of Portal Hypertension and Their Prognostic Implications in Patients With Autoimmune Hepatitis

open access: yesAlimentary Pharmacology &Therapeutics, Volume 63, Issue 2, Page 264-275, January 2026.
Features of clinically significant portal hypertension (CSPH) in patients with autoimmune hepatitis indicate a substantial risk for decompensation and impaired transplant‐free survival. Non‐invasive risk prediction based on liver stiffness measurement ≥ 15 kPa and/or thrombocytopenia (< 150 G/L) serves as a valuable surrogate to identify patients at ...

Habitat Selection and Seed Dispersal by the Great Blue Turaco (Corythaeola cristata) in the Rainforests of Southern Cameroon

open access: yesBiotropica, Volume 58, Issue 1, January 2026.
This study is the first to use telemetry to document the movements of the great blue turaco, a bird that plays an important role in seed dispersal throughout Africa's Congo Basin. We show how 3D vegetation structure influences the movements of four turacos and the resulting spatial patterns of seed dispersal.
