Bioelectric Registration of Electromagnetic Tracking and Preoperative Volume Data [PDF]
For minimally invasive endovascular surgery, the localization of catheters and guidewires inside the human body is essential. Electromagnetic (EM) tracking is one technology that allows localizing such surgical instruments. For localizing intra-operatively EM-tracked instruments with respect to preoperative volume data, it is necessary to bring pre ...

Tumor microenvironment drives cancer formation and progression. We analyzed the role of human cancer‐associated adipocytes from patients with renal cell carcinoma (RCC) stratified as lean, overweight, or obese. RNA‐seq demonstrated that, among the most altered genes involved in the tumor–stroma crosstalk, are ADAM12 and CYP1B1, which were proven to be ...

Inhibitor of DNA binding‐1 is a key regulator of cancer cell vasculogenic mimicry
Elevated expression of transcriptional regulator inhibitor of DNA binding 1 (ID1) promoted cancer cell‐mediated vasculogenic mimicry (VM) through regulation of pro‐angiogenic and pro‐cancerous genes (e.g. VE‐cadherin (CDH5), TIE2, MMP9, DKK1). Higher ID1 expression also increased metastases to the lung and the liver.

Systematic profiling of cancer‐fibroblast interactions reveals drug combinations in ovarian cancer
Fibroblasts, cells in the tumor environment, support ovarian cancer cell growth and alter morphology and drug response. We used fibroblast and cancer cell co‐culture models to test 528 drugs and discovered new drugs for combination treatment. We showed that adding Vorinostat or Birinapant to standard chemotherapy may improve drug response, suggesting ...

Giant solitary fibrous tumor of the pleura [PDF]
Background: Solitary fibrous tumor is the second primary malignancy of the pleura and can reach up to 39cm in diameter; to be referred to as giant it must occupy at least 40% of the affected hemithorax. Although this tumor usually shows a benign behavior malignancy criteria have been described.
