AbstractcDNA clones corresponding to the vasotocin precursor polypeptide were isolated from a chicken hypothalamic library and sequenced. The derived amino‐acid sequence indicates a precursor of comparable structural organization to that described for members of the vasotocin/vasopressin gene family from other species.

Radioimmunoassay of Arginine Vasotocin
Endocrinology, 1974A method for the radioimmunoassay of arginine vasotocin has been developed using methods and antisera previously utilized in the measurement of serum arginine vasopressin. For ssay of biological samples containing both vasotocin and vasopressin, simultaneous measurement of duplicate samples is conducted with two antisera.Samples known to contain only ...

Serotonin and vasotocin function in territoriality
Pharmacology Biochemistry and Behavior, 2020This ethopharmacological investigation comprised a long-term field study that examined the function of serotonergic and vasotonergic systems in territoriality. Adult territorial and non-territorial (silent) male coquí frogs (Eleutherodactylus coqui) were injected (IP) with either arginine vasotocin (AVT) or one of two serotonin agonists, 5-HT2A/2C ...

The effects of neuropeptides on the brain are a major focus of neuroendocrine research, and little progress has been made in the identification of the target neurons for many neuropeptides. Arginine8-vasotocin (AVT) is a neurohypophyseal peptide present in nonmammalian vertebrates that controls many neural and behavioral functions.

Arginine vasotocin and aggression in rats
Peptides, 1984Pinealectomized (PX) and sham animals were administered either AVT (1 ng/kg) or vehicle (1 ml H20). Boxing-kicking-biting episodes were significantly reduced by administration of AVT, F(1,21) = 8.09, p less than 0.009. Crawling under behavior was increased in PXH20 animals (p less than 0.05).

Arginine vasotocin and fish osmoregulation
Fish Physiology and Biochemistry, 1993Pituitary arginine vasotocin (AVT) secretion is sensitive to the osmotic challenge associated with transfer of euryhaline teleosts between sea water (SW) and fresh water (FW). Pituitary AVT content in FW-adapted flounders greatly exceeds that in SW-adapted fish. Plasma AVT concentrations are in the range 10(-12)-10(-11) M (1-100 pg/ml).

AbstractArginine8 vasotocin (AVT), a neurohypophyseal peptide in nonmammalian vertebrates, plays a key role in the regulation of social behaviors related to reproduction. In male roughskin newts (Taricha granulosa), AVT is an important facilitator of several reproductive behaviors, including courtship clasping of females.
