Arginine Vasotocin and a Novel Oxytocin-Vasotocin-Like Material in Plasma of Human Newborns
Biology of the Neonate, 2009Plasma of human adults contains an oxytocin, vasotocin-like (OT-VT) immunoreactive material that is estrogen responsive in both males and females and the levels of which are elevated during pregnancy. Although OT-VT is immunoreactive with an antiserum raised against synthetic arginine vasotocin (AVT), the elution profile of OT-VT by high-performance ...

Opposite effects of vasotocin and of a specific vasotocin antiserum on active sleep of kittens
Journal of Neural Transmission, 1988The effects of intracerebroventricularly administered synthetic arginine vasotocin (AVT) or undiluted AVT, vasopressin (AVP) and oxytocin (OT) antisera on active sleep (AS) of newborn kittens have been investigated in comparison with rabbit serum control.

Antipyretic effect of arginine vasotocin in toads
American Journal of Physiology-Regulatory, Integrative and Comparative Physiology, 2000Arginine vasotocin (AVT) is a nonmammalian analog of the mammalian hormone arginine vasopressin (AVP). These peptides are known for their antidiuretic and pressor effects. More recently, AVP has been recognized as an important antipyretic molecule in mammals. However, no information exists about the role of AVT in febrile ectotherms.

Hyperglycaemic Effect of Vasotocin in Toads
Nature, 1965PREPARATIONS of neurohypophyseal hormones may increase blood glucose concentration in mammals, but the interpretation of the earlier reports was complicated by the possibility that the preparations were impure1. Mirsky2, however, has shown that pure preparations of neurohypophyseal hormones increase the blood glucose concentration of dogs by about 10 ...

Circulating vasotocin in the snake Bothrops jararaca
Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part A: Physiology, 19921. There is biochemical and pharmacological evidence to suggest the presence of vasotocin in the blood and plasma of the snake Bothrops jararaca (Bj). 2. XE-64 extracts from Bj blood showed antidiuretic and hypotensive activities in rats and a contractile effect on rat isolated uterus, which was totally dialysable and inhibited by thioglycollate.

From vasotocin to stress and cognition
European Journal of Pharmacology, 2010Sex and stress hormones coordinate experience and behaviour with physiological regulations. In the brain the sex hormones act to promote the repertoire of affiliative and reproductive behaviours. Stress hormones target in particular brain circuits underlying emotional arousal and cognition.

Arginine Vasotocin in the Rabbit Subcommissural Organ
Endocrinology, 1975Subcommissural organs of young and mature rabbits were analyzed for their content of arginine vasotocin by radioimmunoassay. Younger animals had significantly greater quantities of this peptide. There was no detectable arginine vasopressin or oxytocin in subcommissural organ extracts.

Vasotocin and reproductive functions of the domestic chicken
Domestic Animal Endocrinology, 2003The neurohypophyseal hormone arginine vasotocin (AVT) combines both antidiuretic and reproductive activities. In the domestic chicken AVT produces assimetric effects on the reproductive functions of males and females. AVT synthesized in magnocellular diencephalic neurons is released into circulation in a highly coordinated manner contributing to the ...

The cardiac effects of arginine vasotocin in amphibians
Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part C: Comparative Pharmacology, 19881. The cardiac effects of arginine vasotocin (AVT) on isolated atria were examined in three anuran and one urodele species. 2. AVT produced dose-related positive chronotropic and inotropic responses. 3. The responsiveness of the atrial tissue varied among species. 4.

Inactivation of vasotocin by hen's tissues in vitro
