Tilt Testing in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Syncope [PDF]
A síncope neurocardiogénica é uma entidade com prevalência e incidência significativas. Apesar da baixa mortalidade relacionada com esta entidade, são significativas as implicações na qualidade de vida dos doentes.

Squatting test: A posture to study and counteract cardiovascular abnormalities associated with autonomic dysfunction. [PDF]
The squatting test is an active posture manoeuvre that imposes one of the most potent orthostatic stresses. In normal subjects, the changes in blood pressure and heart rate are transient because of appropriate baroreflex homeostasis and do not provoke ...

Spectral analysis of heart rate variability for assessment of autonomic nervous system activity during head-up tilt table testing [PDF]
Spectral analysis of heart rate variability was used to assess changes in activity of autonomic nervous system (ANS) in 84 patients with history of recurrent syncope and 21 normal controls.

Self-organization of blood pressure regulation: Clinical evidence
The pathogenesis of vasovagal syncope has remained elusive despite many efforts to identify an underlying dysfunction. Catastrophe theory explains the spontaneous occurrence of sudden events in some mathematically complex systems known as self-organized ...

Etiological diagnosis, prognostic significance and role of electrophysiological study in patients with Brugada ECG and syncope. [PDF]
BACKGROUND: Syncope is considered a risk factor for life-threatening arrhythmias in Brugada patients. Distinguishing a benign syncope from one due to ventricular arrhythmias is often difficult, unless an ECG is recorded during the episode.

Abstract figure legend A sudden decrease in total peripheral resistance (TPR), as observed during vasovagal syncope, leads to a reduction in aortic systolic pressure (AO pressure) and afterload. In healthy individuals, the consequent decrease in left ventricular systolic pressure (LV pressure) lowers stroke work and myocardial energy expenditure.

Tilt Test in Elderly Patients with Syncope of Unknown Etiology: Experience with Pharmacological Stimulation with Nitroglycerin [PDF]

Wavelet Analysis of Blood Pressure Waves in Vasovagal Syncope [PDF]
We describe the multiresolution wavelet analysis of blood pressure waves in vasovagal syncope affected patients compared with healthy people one. We argue that there exist subtle discriminating criteria which allow us to isolate particular features ...
