The Vastus Lateralis Myocutaneous Flap
Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, 1987Four case reports of decubiti treated with vastus lateralis myocutaneous flaps are presented. The operative technique is described in detail. This method, closing the donor site primarily over Hemovac drains and eliminating the use of skin grafts, can be used to cover defects in a variety of locations.

Endometriosis of the vastus lateralis muscle
Skeletal Radiology, 2005We report an unusual case of a woman who sought medical attention for a painful mass within her anterolateral left thigh. The patient's symptoms waxed and waned with her menses. Magnetic resonance imaging revealed a 3 cm mass isointense to muscle and surrounded by a rim of decreased signal intensity on T1-weighted images.

Innervation of vastus lateralis muscle
Clinical Anatomy, 2006AbstractThe lateral surgical approach to the proximal femur potentially damages the nerve supply to the vastus lateralis (VL) muscle. This study describes the detailed anatomy of the nerve supply to the VL muscle based on dissection of ten cadaveric lower limbs.

Vastus Lateralis Muscle Biopsy
JAMA: The Journal of the American Medical Association, 1984To the Editor.— During the past ten years, the muscle biopsy technique has become a valuable asset to researchers in sports medicine and exercise physiology for examining various properties of skeletal muscle. Somewhat surprisingly, the risks of this procedure have not been well documented, despite the fact that both researchers and institutional ...

Motor Nerve to the Vastus Lateralis
Archives of Facial Plastic Surgery, 2012Objective To further delineate the anatomy of the motor nerve to the vastus lateralis (MNVL) in the context of its use as a possible interpositional nerve graft in facial nerve rehabilitation. Methods Twelve fresh human cadaveric thighs were dissected to investigate the anatomic location and branching pattern of the MNVL muscle. Results There were 3 to 6

Summary This study was conducted to investigate the effects of Jenny McConnell's vastus lateralis (VL) inhibition taping technique on VL and vastus medialis obliquus (VMO) muscle activity, and its possible application in quadriceps rehabilitation, particularly in patellofemoral pain syndrome.

The vastus lateralis muscle: An anatomical investigation
Clinical Anatomy, 2010AbstractAnterior knee pain or patellofemoral pain syndrome is commonly encountered by clinicians, but the pathogenesis of this condition is not well understood. While much research has centred around the relationship between vastus medialis and anterior knee pain, little is known about the most lateral of the quadriceps muscle group, vastus lateralis ...

Anatomy of Vastus Lateralis Muscle Flap
Journal of Craniofacial Surgery, 2010A vastus lateralis muscle flap is used as a pedicled and free flap. In this study, the vastus lateralis muscles of 15 adult formalin-fixed cadavers (30 cases) were dissected. The dominant pedicle was found to be descending branch of the lateral circumflex femoral artery. The mean diameter of the artery was found to be 2.1 mm.

The Vastus Lateralis Muscle Flap
Annals of Plastic Surgery, 1980The vastus lateralis muscle can provide a broad sheet of muscle for repair of defects of the lower abdomen, groin, perineum, hip, and ischium. The authors limit the use of the vastus lateralis muscle to situations in which more traditional techniques are not feasible.

Anterolateral Thigh / Vastus Lateralis Flap
2011In 1984, Song and coworkers described the thigh as a donor site for three new flaps, which they raised from its posterior, anteromedial, and anterolateral aspect [500]. Of these three flaps, the anterolateral thigh flap became most popular, especially in head and neck reconstruction.
