VDL mode 3 digital voice operation

IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Magazine, 2006
VHF data link (VDL) mode 3 is a digital TDMA communications system developed by the FAA and industry partners as a replacement for the existing 25 kHz analog AM systems currently used for VHF aeronautical communications. VDL mode 3 provides increased channel capacity and security for both voice and data link communications. This paper provides a report

Why Advanced VDL Provides Viable Way Forward

2019 Integrated Communications, Navigation and Surveillance Conference (ICNS), 2019
Improved communications performance and higher data rates are necessary to support future airspace operations. Application of new technologies to update the existing aeronautical Very High Frequency (VHF) communications can provide a viable solution with higher data rates that satisfy future airspace requirements while addressing areas of concern with ...

VDL-2 for the ATN/IPS

2015 IEEE/AIAA 34th Digital Avionics Systems Conference (DASC), 2015
Activities have been initiated in ICAO and AEEC to further develop the Aeronautical Telecommunications Network/Internet Protocol Suite (ATN/IPS) rather than the ATN/Open System Interconnection (ATN/OSI) protocols for use by safety and regularity of flight applications.

VDL—a Definition system for all levels

ACM SIGARCH Computer Architecture News, 1973
The VDL system for the description of programming languages which was originally used for the definition of PL/I is extended to the description of processors. This paper shows the relationship between the language of definition and the abstract machine over which the semantics of the language are specified.

Semantically Structured VDL-Based Iconic Tags System

2013
Iconic tags system based on Visual Distinctive Language has been developed and assessed improving tagging effectiveness by considering tagging quality and tagging speed. This amelioration benefits from semiotic interpretation of tag meaning and graphical code of tag structure.

Comparison of VDL modes in the terminal domain

2004 IEEE Aerospace Conference Proceedings (IEEE Cat. No.04TH8720), 2005
In This work we investigate the comparative performance of VDL modes 2, 3 and 4 by simulating mobile aircraft that dynamically establish and disconnect links to the ground station. The principal consideration was to model and simulate realistic data traffic and aircraft traffic patterns in the terminal domain, which in these simulations is the area ...

VDL Mode 3 subnet simulation models in OPNET

Gateway to the New Millennium. 18th Digital Avionics Systems Conference. Proceedings (Cat. No.99CH37033), 2003
The Very High Frequency (VHF) Digital Link (VDL) Mode 3 is based on a Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) media access control (MAC) protocol. This MAC protocol incorporates priority queuing, slotted ALOHA, and polling by the ground station to handle channel contention and to achieve the speedy delivery of time critical ATC messages.
