Effects of Single and Multiple Dose Tiotropium/Olodaterol in Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease on Alveolar Gas Exchange Measured by Hyperpolarized 129Xe MRI

open access: yesJournal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Long‐acting muscarinic antagonists/long‐acting beta adrenoreceptor agonists lead to lung deflation and improved microvascular perfusion in hyperinflated chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), but with an unclear time course. Purpose To investigate the effect of inhalation of tiotropium/olodaterol (TIO/OLO) on MRI measures of ...

Climatology of Tropical Cyclones Approaching Tanzania and Their Impacts on Rainfall in East Africa

open access: yesInternational Journal of Climatology, EarlyView.
Tropical cyclones (TCs) that approach Tanzania bring heavy rainfall over northern Mozambique, Tanzania, and south‐central Kenya, but the occurrence of these TCs reduces precipitation over southern African countries. Easterly steering winds and the Mascarene High are key features directing TCs westward.

Independent Component Analysis for Non‐Contrast‐Enhanced Free‐Breathing Pulmonary Ventilation and Perfusion MRI

open access: yesMagnetic Resonance in Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Purpose To introduce a robust approach for non‐contrast‐enhanced free‐breathing functional lung MRI based on independent component analysis (ICA), addressing key limitations of standard methods such as sensitivity to irregular breathing or irregular heartbeat.

Efficacy of Vitamin C Treatment to Aid the Healing of Foot Ulcers in People With Diabetes: A Randomised, Placebo‐Controlled Double‐Blind Trial: The FOOT‐C Study Protocol

open access: yesJournal of Foot and Ankle Research, Volume 19, Issue 3, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Introduction Diabetes‐related foot ulceration (DFU) is a serious complication, serving as a leading cause of amputation, disability, hospitalisation and a significant contributor to healthcare costs. Deficiencies in vitamin C and other micronutrients are common in DFU.

VQ‐Wave: A Physics‐Driven Spatiotemporal Deep Learning Approach for Noncontrast‐Enhanced Lung Ventilation and Perfusion MRI

open access: yesMagnetic Resonance in Medicine, Volume 96, Issue 3, Page 1427-1442, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Purpose To develop a robust deep learning framework for noncontrast‐enhanced functional lung MRI, overcoming the limitations of spectral decomposition in the presence of physiological nonstationarity. Methods We introduce VQ‐Wave (Ventilation/Q‐perfusion Waveform‐based Assessment of Variable Evolutions), a physics‐driven spatiotemporal ...

Humidity‐Enhanced Chemoresistive Sensor Performance in a p‐Type Spinel Metal Oxide

open access: yesSmall Structures, Volume 7, Issue 9, September 2026.
Humidity reduces the performance of most chemoresistive metal–oxide gas sensing. Here, we demonstrate humidity‐enhanced acetone sensing with ZnMn2O4 by utilizing surface hydroxyl groups. Combining in situ DRIFT spectroscopy and isotope labeling, this work reveals that hydroxyls actively promote analyte oxidation, offering a new strategy to improve ...

Soil freeze‐thaw dynamics measured through experimental 3D time‐lapse electrical resistivity tomography

open access: yesVadose Zone Journal, Volume 25, Issue 5, September/October 2026.
Abstract Permafrost freeze‐thaw transitions mark the critical zone between frozen stable and thawed unstable permafrost, affecting the hydrogeological functioning by activating groundwater flows, and decreasing the stability for infrastructure. There are still uncertainties in the transitional zone regarding liquid porewater content and thermal ...

Physiological and behavioural effects of continuous remifentanil‐xylazine administration in donkeys

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Journal, Volume 58, Issue 5, Page 1390-1395, September 2026.
Abstract Background Remifentanil and xylazine are used as continuous infusions to facilitate standing surgery in horses. Their use for this purpose has not been reported in donkeys. Objectives To evaluate the behavioural, sedative, and cardiorespiratory effects of continuous intravenous infusion of remifentanil and xylazine in donkeys. Study Design Non‐

Sustainable Extraction of Mangiferin From Mango Leaves Using Taguchi and Box‐Behnken Optimization: Biochemical Characterization and Antioxidant Profiling

open access: yesJournal of Separation Science, Volume 49, Issue 8, August 2026.
A sustainable aqueous‐ethanolic maceration process, sequentially optimized using Taguchi and Box‐Behnken designs, enabled efficient mangiferin recovery from M. indica leaves. The optimized extract exhibited high antioxidant activity and a favorable Analytical GREEnness score, demonstrating its potential as a scalable and environmentally responsible ...

Beyond Upper Airway Involvement: Evidence of Intrinsic Lung Disease in a Mouse Model of Mucopolysaccharidosis I

open access: yesJournal of Inherited Metabolic Disease, Volume 49, Issue 4, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Almost all patients with mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS) develop respiratory dysfunction of varying severity during disease progression. While respiratory disease in MPS has traditionally been attributed to upper airway obstruction caused by glycosaminoglycan (GAG) accumulation in the trachea and bronchi, involvement of the intrapulmonary ...
