Physical Essence of Propagable Fractional‐Strength Optical Vortices in Free Space

open access: yesAdvanced Photonics Research, 2023
Fractional‐order vector vortex beams (VVBs) have recently been demonstrated as new carriers of fractional‐strength optical vortices. However, the inherent mechanism of the new vortex beams, formed by the combination of both unstable states, to propagate ...

Design of broadband terahertz vector and vortex beams: I. Review of materials and components

open access: yesLight: Advanced Manufacturing, 2022
In this paper, we review the existing approaches for vortex and vector beam shaping and generation in the terahertz frequency range. The particular focus of this review is on the possibility of homogeneous topological charge formation in the ultra-wide ...

Phase-change metasurface for switchable vector vortex beam generation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
Metasurfaces have attracted increasing attention due to their unprecedented capabilities of molding optical fields with exceedingly low losses. Despite significant achievements, most existing metasurfaces are passive and lack dynamic modulation post ...

Topological phase structure of vector vortex beams [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Optical Society of America A, 2014
The topological phase acquired by vector vortex optical beams is investigated. Under local unitary operations on their polarization and transverse degrees of freedom, the vector vortices can only acquire discrete geometric phase values, 0 or $π\,$, associated with closed paths belonging to different homotopy classes on the SO(3) manifold.

Transfer of spin angular momentum to a dielectric particle [PDF]

open access: yesКомпьютерная оптика, 2020
We show here that in the sharp focus of a linearly polarized laser beam the spin vector flux has only transverse components (the effect of photonic wheels or photonic helicopter).

Spin to orbital angular momentum transfer in frequency up-conversion

open access: yesNanophotonics, 2021
We demonstrate the spin to orbital angular momentum transfer in frequency upconversion with structured light beams. A vector vortex is coupled to a circularly polarized Gaussian beam in noncollinear second harmonic generation under type-II phase match ...

Design of broadband terahertz vector and vortex beams: II. Holographic assessment

open access: yesLight: Advanced Manufacturing, 2022
In this paper, we demonstrate the capabilities of the terahertz pulse time-domain holography in visualisation, simulation, and assessment of broadband THz vortex beam formation dynamics upon its shaping by elements of beam converter, and further ...

Spontaneous Emission of Vector Vortex Beams [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review Applied, 2020
Harnessing the spontaneous emission of incoherent quantum emitters is one of the hallmarks of nano-optics. Yet, an enduring challenge remains-making them emit vector beams, which are complex forms of light associated with fruitful developments in fluorescence imaging, optical trapping and high-speed telecommunications. Vector beams are characterized by

Enhancing Performance of Air–Ground OAM Communication System Utilizing Vector Vortex Beams in the Atmosphere

open access: yesPhotonics, 2022
The modified uplink and downlink atmospheric turbulence channel models were established and employed to assess the system performance of air–ground orbital angular momentum (OAM) communication.
