Vegetable tanning substances. Dependence of the tanning properties of extracts on their composition

Chemistry of Natural Compounds, 1990
Information is given on vegetable tanning substances, their classification, distribution in the plant world, and structure, and the dependence of their tanning properties on their composition, and also on methods of enriching tanning extracts. The review of literature sources includes publications from 1950 to 1989.

Deterioration of Simulated Waterlogged Leather Tanned with Vegetable Tanning Agents

Journal of the American Leather Chemists Association
Archaeological leather has been buried in a wet, anoxic environment for an extensive period of time, which has resulted in the degradation of its tannins. This process, in addition to the removal of lipids, has caused damage to the leather’s structure, primarily due to the deterioration of collagen, which is the leather’s primary component.

Mathematical modelling of a vegetable tanning process

2013
In this work a mathematical model of the vegetable tanning process under different operating conditions has been developed and validated. The mathematical model describes the tanning process as a series process involving tannin diffusion into the leather and subsequent reaction with collagen.
