Assessing soil and native high Andean grassland quality under grazing: A case study from the wet Puna of Peru

open access: yesGrassland Science, EarlyView.
Abstract High Andean grasslands are vulnerable to changes in their nutritional quality and carbon sequestration capacity, especially in grazing systems. This study evaluated soil quality and native grasses by measuring carbon, physicochemical parameters, and the nutritional quality of predominant species in the wet Puna of Junín, Peru.

Facilitated Transport of Organic Contaminants in a High Concentration, Multicomponent Plume

open access: yesGroundwater Monitoring &Remediation, EarlyView.
Abstract A field experiment evaluated the transport of organic contaminants in a plume from hazardous waste disposal areas at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal. The plume contained many xenobiotic contaminants, with widely varying expected mobilities.

Reinventing henna: Enzyme‐catalysed colour release from stabilized Lawsonia inermis L. extracts

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cosmetic Science, EarlyView.
The instability and reduced dyeing performance of a cosmetic formulation containing 2‐hydroxy‐1,4‐naphthoquinone (lawsone), derived from Lawsonia inermis L., is demonstrated in comparison to a novel two‐component system. This system comprises one formulation with naturally occurring lawsone precursors and a second containing a specific hydrolase ...

Preference and In Vitro Digestibility of Leaves of Woody Plants by Sheep in the Northern Sudanian Zone

open access: yesJournal of Animal Physiology and Animal Nutrition, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In West Africa, trees and shrubs are important for feeding ruminant livestock during the dry season. This study aimed to determine the in vitro digestibility of organic matter from eight woody species using a gas test with and without the addition of polyethylene glycol (PEG), and evaluate their preference by sheep using a cafeteria test ...

Diversity and seasonal dynamics of the marine diatom family Chaetocerotaceae (Bacillariophyta, Mediophyceae) in Catalan coastal waters (northwest Mediterranean)

open access: yesJournal of Phycology, EarlyView.
Abstract The family Chaetocerotaceae includes the genera Chaetoceros and Bacteriastrum, with Chaetoceros being one of the most cosmopolitan, abundant, and diverse diatom genera in the oceans. This study investigated the diversity and seasonal dynamics of the Chaetocerotaceae in surface waters of two coastal sites along the Catalan coast (Barcelona and ...
