Embedded physical constraints in machine learning to enhance vegetation phenology prediction

open access: yesGIScience & Remote Sensing
Vegetation phenology plays a pivotal role in ecological processes on terrestrial surfaces and the interactions between the biosphere and atmospheric feedback. Current attempts to retrieve vegetation phenology have primarily depended on vegetation indices

Density‐dependent habitat selection in plains bison

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.
Using GPS collar data, we tested whether habitat selection of plains bison in Grasslands National Park, Canada, was density dependent. Bison selected for areas of high vegetation productivity far from human activity when population density was low and increased use of lower productivity habitat closer to disturbance as density increased.

Nonlinear Responses of Vegetation Phenology to Climate Change and Urbanization: A Case Study in Beijing, China

open access: yesIEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing
Vegetation serves as an indicator of ecological change, and phenology is an important indicator for evaluating vegetation growth and development. Analyzing the spatiotemporal characteristics of vegetation phenology and its driving factors is of great ...

Contribution of NOAA- AVHRR data to African savan nahs Characterization [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) is currently used for vegetation monitoring. Information on the state and evolution of the vegetation cover on continental areas is routinely obtained from Global Vegetation Index data (GVI).

Phyllocephalum keralense (Asteraceae) a new species from southern Western Ghats of Kerala, India

open access: yesNordic Journal of Botany, EarlyView.
A new species of Phyllocephalum is described and illustrated from Palakkad district of Kerala, India. The new species shows similarity to P. rangacharii but differs with respect to key floral traits, viz. ovoid shape of the capitula, involucral bracts in 3 series, inflated receptacle and ovoid 6‐ribbed ovary with 5–6 densely barbellate pappus setae ...

Sea-land climate gradient: a factor influencing vegetation phenology patterns in Yellow River Delta region

open access: yesEnvironmental Research Communications
Estuarine coastal wetland are vulnerable zones of the Earth’s ecosphere, and hygrophilous vegetation responds sensitively to climate change. Vegetation phenology is a key component of global climate change research.

Analysis of Differences in Phenology Extracted from the Enhanced Vegetation Index and the Leaf Area Index

open access: yesSensors, 2017
Remote-sensing phenology detection can compensate for deficiencies in field observations and has the advantage of capturing the continuous expression of phenology on a large scale.
