Cutting, herbicide, and fire: a case study for managing woody plants in tallgrass prairies

open access: yesRestoration Ecology, EarlyView.
Abstract Introduction The removal of clonal and resprouting woody plants expanding into mesic grasslands like tallgrass prairies can be expensive based on the types of treatments applied and subsequent retreatments. Objective We aimed to determine how combined herbicide application, mechanical treatments, and annual prescribed fire influenced grassland

The effects of potential organic apple fruit thinners on gas exchange and growth of model apple trees: A model plant study of transient photosynthetic inhibitors and their effect on physiology and growth [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Few fruit thinners have been certified for organic fruit growers. Previous studies have shown that herbicides or shade are capable of reducing photosynthesis and are effective fruit-thinning techniques, although impractical. This project evaluated use of

Growth and yield response of cashew (Anacardium occidentale L.) clones to spacing in the Guinea Savanna zone of Ghana

open access: yesAgrosystems, Geosciences &Environment, Volume 9, Issue 2, June 2026.
Abstract The Guinea Savanna zone of many countries constitutes a critical cashew‐producing area. Despite its importance, data‐driven recommendations on optimal tree spacing remain largely unavailable to farmers in Ghana. This knowledge gap constrains productivity, reduces returns on investment, and affects farmer interest and ultimately the long‐term ...

Performance of some vegetatively propagated apple rootstocks in the nursery

open access: yes, 2006
Five apple rootstocks (M.9, M.26, J-TE-H, J-OH-A and J-TE-F) were studied in commercial clonal stoolbed in 2003-2005. The rootstocks were planted in the autumn of 1999 at the density of 10,000 plants per hectare. The shoots developing from mother plants were pruned in the stoolbed annually at the height of 10-15 cm above the ground.
