Primary Human Tissue Models for Metabolic Dysfunction‐Associated Liver Disease ‐ toward Streamlining Drug Discovery with Patient‐Derived Assays

open access: yesAdvanced Biology, EarlyView.
The review provides a critical up‐to‐date overview of the current landscape of human in vitro models for fatty liver disease, including spheroids, organoids, organ‐on‐a‐chip systems, bioprinted liver constructs and precision‐cut liver slices. Their utility for faithfully modeling different stages of MASLD and MASH are evaluated and their compatibility ...

Memory and attention deficit in chronic migraine

open access: yesНервно-мышечные болезни, 2018
Background. Memory and attention deficits are prevalent in the chronic pain population. There are multiple common mechanisms in chronic pain and cognitive impairment. However, the presence, prevalence and clinical burden of such impairment are frequently

The cephalic vein : a providential vein

open access: yesBasrah Journal of Surgery
The first time, I saw a Port-à Cath operation, was in 1989. The surgeon did it through the cephalic vein, under local anesthesia. In 1990, I had to do it through the subclavian vein, percutaneously, following the policy of the department, again under local anesthesia. Since 1994, I have been doing this operation, through the cephalic vein.

3D Bioprinting of Thick Adipose Tissues with Integrated Vascular Hierarchies

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, Volume 35, Issue 12, March 18, 2025.
An advanced 3D bioprinting technique is used here to create thick adipose tissues with a central, vessel and extensive branching. The construct is made using alginate, gelatin and collagen‐based bioinks. Flow through the complex vessel network is demonstrated as well as its successful integration with a femoral artery following implantation in a rat ...

Chronic pain, depression and cognitive impairment: a close relationship

open access: yesНервно-мышечные болезни, 2018
Over a half of chronic pain (CP) patients present with cognitive complaints, which increase their disability and impact quality of life. The paper reviews objective impairments in memory, attention, processing speed and executive function demonstrated in

Arterial-portal fistula treated with hepatic arterial embolization and portal venous aneurysm stent-graft exclusion complicated by type 2 endoleak. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Intrahepatic arterioportal fistulas may be complicated by portal hypertension. An associated portal venous aneurysm (PVA) may impinge upon adjacent structures or rupture.

A Vascularized Microphysiological System Reproducing Endochondral Ossification in Vitro to Study Ewing Sarcoma Proliferation and Migration

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A biofabricated 3D in vitro model recapitulating endochondral ossification (ECO) is described, mimicking the steps from condensation to chondrogenesis and hypertrophy, culminating with vascularization of the hypertrophic construct. As a model proof of concept application, Ewing Sarcoma cells are seeded in the model, showing modifications in their ...

Bistability coordinates activation of the EGFR and DPP pathways in Drosophila vein differentiation

open access: yesMolecular Systems Biology, 2009
Cell differentiation in developing tissues is controlled by a small set of signaling pathways, which must coordinate the timing and levels of activation to ensure robust and precise outcomes. Highly coordinated activation of signaling pathways can result
